Need ID help. Mica Caps?
    #15196683 - 10/08/11 04:02 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Hey everyone, great site. I used to always pick mushrooms as a kid with my dad. Mostly chantrelles and lobster mushrooms, and I recently started again. It's been a while, so I just wanted to check up on these mushrooms before I got carried away. I'm almost certain they are young mica caps, but I would like some others here to confirm that for me.

Thanks in advance.

Habitat:
Temperate forest in Northern Washington, Whatcom county. In soil/wood debris around ferns. About 1,500 feet in altitude.

Gills:
White gills, barely attached at the top of the stem, up inside the cap. Once picked, the gills turned slightly grey, and some of them were black

Stem:
White, hollow, a little fragile.

Cap:
Egg shaped, very light tan.

Spore print color:
Still waiting on this.

Bruising:
Almost no bruising so far, looks like it may turn a little darker.

Other information:
Smells Mushroomy. Pleasant, mild smell.

I think you have the right family, but I don't think those are Mica Caps. Probably a Coprinopsis sp. or maybe Coprinopsis atramentaria.

I will confess something that should be quite obvious, CC.  I love mushrooms, i.e. fungi.  I really do.  I am talking about a strong feeling, i.e. emotion, for them.  I think they are beautiful.  I even dream of them.

That's unfortunate :frown: Looks like Coprinopsis sp is inedible, but the Coprinopsis atramentaria is? I don't have any alcohol in my diet.
