Outdoor bed bottom plastic?
    #15196194 - 10/08/11 02:00 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

I am going to try some outdoor beds and i found some cool grow logs but what i'm really interested in are concepts to guide my decisions.  One thing i'm wondering about is should i put plastic underneath my outdoor bed as a liner to protect against contams/bugs coming up from the soil below?  Also do i want an area with good FAE or should i be looking for a very enclosed space (like an old barn or out in the field under some trees?). I'm gonna be puttin in cubes with hpoo.  If you got links to teks or logs that explain this kinda thing i would appreciate it!

No plastic.  You want your outdoor bed to work in conjunction with nature, not against it the way we do indoors with sterile culture.

So can some one point me towards some teks with more explanation than just dig a hole and fill it with stuff? Or is that about as far as it goes?  I like details to guide me like in TMC they talk about air flow, misting, particle size, RH and the like.  Is it really as easy as just a hole in the ground?

I used to have a hole in the ground which Id just dump bad jars into....  You know, stuff that either ended up contamed or spent substrate or even jars that didnt do anything...  Just toss them all in there.  This was way back...  few years ago when I grew cakes and nothing else.

I didnt cover it with nothing, and didnt take care of it at all.  It was in a shady spot in my backyard...  It had shrooms of all kinds popping up in it......  So my guess sis that it wouldn't take much to tend an outdoor grow once you had it set up.  Just :2cents:

There are a lot of earth worms in my area, will they come up from the ground and eat my myc?  If so what do i use to protect it?  I would guess a layer of gravel lining the bed?
