dry vermlayer falling through 98 percent colonized cake
    #15195854 - 10/08/11 12:35 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

alright so there are pins formed already and its almost colonized completely. like its white and verm, its not completely dead white, and since the part that has pins has shrunk, the dry verm has fell through a little.

question is, do i let it colonize completely or take it out and not worry about the possible contam germs from the dry verm falling on the already dead white colonized part with pins?

Personally I would just let it continue to colonize. The mycelium has taken a good hold on the substrate and probably won't contam. But someone with more experience might tell ya different.

yeah alright, makes sense tho, an i worded the question wrong but you got the point but this leads me to my next question..

once it is colonized, all white, since there are already pins, do i not worry about leaving it in for that extra consolidation week?

yeah brother, just leave it. seeings how it is almost 100%, just wait for it to get there, give it another week, and it'll be ready to birth.

dont worry about the pins in the jar, just pretend they are not there. when you birth, pick them off (they are fine to eat), then dunk and roll.

i wouldnt pick them off just birth them gently and roll the verm over them gently.stick em in the fc, some of my biggest fruits have came from having already formed in the jar.
