Fruiting Chamber

Hello,
I have several quarts of perlite, two large plastic containers, and several air pumps. I am looking to build a fruiting chamber. I have seen designs with holes in the sides and perlite bottom to allow airflow. Because I have an air pump, can I exclude the holes but still include the perlite?

I hate to not answer your question but it would be easier and more efficient to build a sgfc

Ditch the air pumps and build an sgfc. Much less hassle and more efficient. Put lots of holes in all six sides to allow for good FAE and then add 3 or 4 inches of hydrated and drained perlite in the bottom. I gleaned this from RR's notes and have had much better results since I implemented his design.

Okay, so sorry to jack the thread, but I've built a sgfc. Lots of holes and a good 3-4 inches of perlite on the bottom. But I can't get the humidity up above 74%... I've even got a humidifier attached to the tub... any ideas?

Depending on the size of your chamber you might need 4-5"
Your hygrometer might be inaccurate too, they're not very reliable from what I've read
Sgfc requires holes on each side, even the bottom. And it must be elevated off the table or whatever it's sitting on so air flows through the bottom

calibrate your hygrometer. mines shit too, it only ever goes up to 70% so I wrapped it in a damp towel and left it for an hour. the needle was pointing to 70% so I took that as 100% and went from there
(damn I hope this i right and I just haven't bought a pile of crap haha)
to the OP - yeah, it seems from all the research that I've done that the SGFC is the way forward! it worked for me but I don't have anything to compare it to, but it was a piece of piss to put together

My container is about 52-58 Qrt container. Roughly the size in the original sgfc vid. I'll see about calibrating the hygrometer, but the air doesn't even feel wet is I slip my hand in.. idk if I'm expecting something that's not going to happen or what.

i'm not sure if you can feel it as such. its not like walking into a bathroom with the shower steaming away, so don't worry too much

You can't feel the humidity in a proper sgfc, Also RR himself says you will never see condensation on the sides. Make sure to keep a fan on in the room facing away from the sgfc. I use my cieling fan on its lowest setting.

I've noticed that my humidity drops 10-20% when the lights come on. After a good mist it goes up 10-15% but jumps back to 85-90% when the lights go off. Anybody else experience this?

No my humidity only drops when I remove the lid and fan. Even then the lid is back on before it drops below 75%. How close is your light?

The light is about a foot and a half above the top of the tub.
