so i have grow tons of cubes and got a small p mex (jalisco) under my belt...... this is most prob my 5th attempt to grow pans. i have have my grains spawned to 30% composted horse manure,30% coco coir, 40% verm.... i added grains to mix then sealed up the tub for three days... when i checked on it it was 100% col. i then cased with a 50/50 coco coir and verm with some added lime. this is now day five in fruiting conditions and i have a heavy overlay. is this normal ? any advice would help.

The heavy overlay is most likely cause by a lack of FAE (Fresh Air Exchange). Oh, and you may just be worrying too damn much dude...

Your casing layer sounds more like a bulk sub.

I would do a 50/50 verm/peat casing.
That doesn't really look like overlay. I've never had it, but I thought it had a thick rubbery texture.

i thought bulk would include manure, coffee, compost or worm castings.
could you then recommend a casing layer ? i thought a pan casing layer consisted of 50/50 (verm/coir-peat)
thanks buddy

I used a vermiculite with hydrated lime casing layer a few times for cubes and it worked fine. I don't know if it will work for pan cyans.

Nah it's a bulk substrate.
If you can't find peat, Jiffy mix and sunshine mix #3 have both been used for casing layers. I ripped that from a 5 yr old post. I've read that straight verm can be used as a last resort as well.
But not sure how well those work for pans.

straight verm would be better than coir/verm as a casing..imo
