too thick casing layer! what now!
    #15190645 - 10/07/11 08:46 AM (13 years, 3 months ago)

guys, im really frustrated. i have a fully colonised myco bag, i open 3 days ago and cased with the polymer casing they give, i used only half of the casing they give away ( and they say to use all of it) i only used half becuase common sense told me it was getting too thick. i just checked and found out it should only be about 1/4-1/2 inch thick. id say it was at very least an inch thick. am i concerned about nothing for should i scoop some off? id this going to be deterimental to the grow? also, after i cased, i resealed the bag with clouths pegs as they say, should i wait until i see myc poking through the casing or should i expose to fruiting now? whts the difference?

Huh?...  Receiving "polymer" when ordering myco-bags?  Never heard of such a thing!  Is that like some sort of "bonus" of you buy 1000ct or something?

Furthermore; why would someone even want to use a synthetic material when there are many natural materials available for creating a casing?

 posts like these make me feel like a total ignoramous; but I genuinely have no idea what you're talking about.

I've never heard of a polymer casing either. Could you elaborate?

I truly dislike all the kits people buy. It takes all the fun out of it.

thats what it is, its a mix of verm and polymer.

i know everyone hates these bags, but ive had sterility issue so this was a garenteed choice for me until i sort things out.

anyway, could someone help with the question at hand?

Aaahhh; a "kit-o-disaster"...

Yeah; I mentally never go there...  So when someone talks about one, without preface, I'm totally clueless...  I'm still clueless about them even with a preface; but then atleast I know to what they are referring.

I would start over with a proven TEK from here (PF TEK. If your have issues with being sterile, take a look at your process and ask yourself. Is there anything I can do to make this more sterile. You can never be to cautious of being sterile.

You should probably wait. Their directions were made for these bags, and you should follow a tek to a T, whether it's a bad one or not, before you start deviating. Also, polymer is not helpful at all, it refers to structure, not what a material is composed of.

Its your grow so do what you want. I tried to do my own thing with a tek from a different site and failed miserably. There is some amazing TEK's on here. By no means did I say to throw out your current grow but start another one with a proven tek.

still no answer to the original question!

i just want to know if i should just give it fruiting conditions without seeing the myc poke through becuase the casing laer is too thick, i think i might just fruit it anyway, it seems no one knows lol

I made a similar mistake on my first casing and went back in and scraped off the excess with a sterile fork. It took a little while for the myc to catch up and start fruiting....but it did and i still ended up with almost 300 wet grams off one quart of WBS. Not the greatest ever but still absolutely satisfactory IMO. So just be sterile as you can and get it done sooner than later and you will be fine.
