I believe these are Chicken Polypores, but i am not sure. I personally can't detect the lemon smell that is typical with these. Everything else seems right though. I live in southeastern Illinois

Habitat:
Found growing on a tree that has died in the past year, oak i believe

Pores, (see picture)

Cap:
fan shaped yellow brackets

Spore print color:
White

Bruising:
none found so far

Other information:
to me it smells like a typical mushroom.

That looks like an absolute motherload haul of Laetiporus sulphureus.

That's a busy freekin tree, how cool is that?

Looks like it could be Laetiporous genus, but I am not positive.  If they are, they appear old as they are so faded.  Probably not edible any longer.

it's the first time i've seen them in our woods and it's the first thing to grow on this tree. the lower ones are still moist, would that make them fresh enough to eat? it hasn't rained here in about 5 days. I would say you could fill a pickup truck bed with all of them

I just went from 6 to midnight. :mustnotfap:
Seriously, that is the most prolific I think I have ever seen chickens fruit. Killer find!

When you see the saw dust-looking shavings you can bet the mushroom is a bit too old. If some of them are still soft and fresh then grab those and leave the rest.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the info. Most of these are too far then, but there are some that are still good. Hopefully they will come back again

They should keep coming back year after year, even for a while after the tree falls from the fungal onslaught :awesomenod:
