Incubation and air exchange

This kid I know in Germany has 11 jars (PF tek BRF/Verm) colonizing at approx. 80 degrees.  It has been 7 days and all but 1 have signs of growth.  Another one of the jars is growing 2x faster than the others.  He has professional grade masking tape over the four innoculation holes on the lids.  Should he remove the tape over the holes to promote gas exchange?  Should he only uncover 2 of the holes on each jar?  Because he doesn't want the substrate to dry out.  Would taking the tape off and placing tin foil over the lids still allow enough air exchange?  Or can he leave the tape on the lids but just unscrew the lids slightly?  Also, the one jar that is colonizing fastest is already colonizing the bottom of the jar, should he flip this jar over?  Any tips and thoughts would be greatly appreciated.  :grin:

A lot of people take the tape off when they first see growth. I don't use tape at all. I just put a coffee-filter over the lid as a dust cover.

As long as they're growing don't fuck with them. When colonization nears 70%, or if growth stalls, then remove the tape and stand them on their heads.  :tongue:

The 70% is rather arbitrary. It's what my friend does (did) and it worked well for him.
