Price Of Substrate Jars?

I'm having a hard time finding 1/2 pint wide-mouth jars and brown rice flour. However, I found a site that sells sterilized jars that are ready for growing, for $3-3.25 each, depending on how many you buy.
This sounds extremely convenient and easy, but I can't really afford to waste money. How much does each jar cost if you buy all of the materials at stores?

less than a dollar a piece once you got the jars. 12 new jars about $10. if you cant find the wide mouth 1/2 pints just get the regular tapered ones. theyll work fine.

Also just saw a link where you can buy direct from ACE Hardware and theyll ship for free to an ACE near you. Was 11 bucks for a dozen jars.
If you have a blender, you can make your own BRF for about a dollar. 8 quarts of "Stay Green" brand verm at your local Lowes will run less than 5 bucks.
Once you have the jars, you can make your own for maybe a quarter a piece.

I dont get it... I live in the middle of bum-fucked egypt, in the town of nowhere, and I don't have a problem finding the basic supplies... For the others, like SFD/etc, it is just a quick online order away... and I can't get internet at home!... Still don't have problems "gettin'er done".

You could always get the premade jars and then reuse the jars

BRF usually isn't with all the normal flour. Check your health food section.

Order the short half pint jars off the net. Might wanna go ahead and get at least 24 seeing as how they are hard to find. You don't need Brown Rice Flour! You can go to the section of your local grocery store, head down the aisle with the bags of rice. Amongst the many bags of white rice (which is NOT what you're looking for), you'll find at least one bag of Organic Brown Rice. You take the rice and grind it into a near flour substance using a food processor, or use a blender like I do. I live in the south though, so canning jars aren't a 'seasonal' item, they're available all year round. Buy Yo Shit From The Net!!!

Problem with the pre-made jars is that they do not come with inoculation holes in them. When you punch the holes in, I would expect the contamination factor to go through the roof.

Like stated above...Just buy brown rice put it in a coffee grinder or blender, or do what you have to, to make it into flour. I have never seen brown rice flour sold anywhere, luckily its easy to make. Plus most of my BRF cakes were grown with the regular mouth 1/2 pint jars, the ones that taper out, so the top is larger then the bottom, so the cakes slid out easy. I believe they are called jelly jars.

I was thinking the same thing. But I don't see why you couldn't just sterilize the nail used.

The jaars would most likely be in a vacuum. Try a clean nail infront of a flowhood

Also I would bet that the dry verm layer gets shifted all out of place during shipping. I seriously doubt they boxes have a "This end up" on it. And even if it did, I wouldn't rely on shippers to abide by it.
