Bulk Substrate Advice Needed ~ Please/Thank You

Treasure Coast is the strain and I just read that using straw with TC will make colonization times faster...so, hypothetically if someone were to spawn colonized rye berries into a small monotub and were to use:
1 brick Coco Coir 2 quarts Verm 1/2 pint Gypsum Organic Straw
*I already purchased the Coir, verm, and gypsum so I really would like to use it, but if straight straw is the better option, then I will just store it. I am open for suggestions.
Q.) Do you pasteurize the Coir and Straw separately, then mix? or can ya just layer the Coir/Verm/Gypsum mix, then put a layer of straw, then berries, and so on until there is 5 inches, with Coir being the one on top?
Q.) Would one still tuck plastic tightly around this type of sub, with tiny holes all over it...like some of the straw teks say?
Q.) Is there a straw/coir tek out there, that for some weird reason I couldn't find?
Q.) How much straw would you use with this formula?
Q.) Is it recommended to case a substrate of this nature?
Thank you for all your knowledge and advice...much <3!

nope.
if its your first grow just leave out the straw.
do everything exactly like the COIR BUCKET TEK in my sig.

Yeah, that's the one that I had book-marked and what the original plan was. It is a very good, simple tek. I'd still like to do one mini mono with straw, then if one gets contaminated, I still have the other. Any advice on mixing straw and coir?

You can do straw with cubes but other species that are quicker colonizers work better with straw. Straw contaminates within a few weeks more often than not if your mycelium can't fully colonize it fast enough

Straw by itself works fine. It is best to stick to a tek starting out to have better chances of success. Plus with damions coir tek you can get away with semi pasteurizing in a bucket rather than putting more effort into properly doing it with straw or mixes.
I have done coir/straw/coffee/crushed oyster/verm and it worked well but was more just done as an experiment. Plus getting the moisture right on with mixes like that is something you mostly have to figure yourself and without prior grows I would think it much harder.

Cubes have always colonized straight straw quickly for me, generally within a week.

As far as mixes, I don't understand using it outside of doing it for kicks like I did after using it straight (edit: or using it for texture with cpoo). But around here bales go for $2.50 and that's a massive amount of sub for a very very small price.

I think I explained why I wanted to use straw and if you don't have anything nice or informative to say, please keep your useless thoughts to yourself. Thanks

straw is definitely NOT needed when you grow cubes. keep it simple!!!
coir, verm, and gypsum is perfect every time

Will do. Got an email late last night that the straw I bought is on back order, so I will play around with straw/substrate maybe next time. Thanks for your advice everyone!

straw isnt worth it unless youre growing other species of psilocybin mushrooms

Rerry?
Cased straw. Did well for me when I was playing with it. It's well worth it imo but, as I said, not as easy as something like coir. There is more work involved such as cutting, proper pasteurization, and a bit more reading.

like i said, its not worth it. sure you can grow cubes on straw. but why bring in unnecesarry shit when a simple coir, vermiculite, and gypsum mix work PERFECTLY. adding straw takes more time, you have to pasteurize the shit then you'll probably still end up getting a contamination sooner or later because of the straw.
do what you want, but i personally think its a pointless waste of time to use straw when growing cubes. especially if youre already using damion5050's tek...

I have agreed with you when it is in mixes and advised op against it. The pic above is straight straw with a casing which is optional. It does work and it does work well. Most of my straw projects have gone to death not from contam but from just being done. The ones that didn't I was trying to shortcut pasteurization (which I also said not to do).
But saying straight straw isn't worth it when following an established tek is what I don't agree with.
