Hey everyone, I was complaining about temps a couple days ago and put them up to 75...and today I came home and saw a little pinch of mycellium growing on my half pint jars. Within 2 days of putting up the temp from 65 (in a drawer) to under a lamp to 75, it made a huge difference. My question now is the location of these jars. I had 4 jars and I put 3 of them in a box and put them in my bearded dragons terrarium (not under the lamp but near it). So for 10-12 hours a day it gets some good heat. Is there anything wrong with this? the box is closed with a bowl on top of it and its cracked so air can get through but there is no way anything can get inside. Is this risking contamination because of dust or germs from my dragon? This is how it looks:

Yeah i would say this is tempting the contams. Not only is the lizard cage a breeding ground for molds, heat lamps get pretty hot; i would guess that those jars could get well over 85 degrees F. in which case you are tempting bacteria. If it exceeds 90-95 you will definitely run into problems.

The heat lamp isn't up all the way. It's stayed between 73-76 the area that I put it in. It is not close to the lamp or even under it. Should I just take it out? Or leave it for another day or 2 and take it out then so it can grow faster.

open the box and let the dragon in with the jars so his body heat will keep them warmer. does this work even though he is cold blooded?
I give you credit for trying to make double use of a heat lamp but this is not a good idea nor is it necessary. try putting the box on top of your fridge.

Fuck. lol thanks for the credit bro. You guys are right. I'll take it out. The fridge is a good idea. I have no patience haha. It's getting colder here (in Vancouver, Canada) and it's like 65 degrees in my room because it's ontop of the garage. How much longer will I have to wait. PS: I put them back in my drawer

use something like styrofoam to keep it insulated. the growing mycelium generates heat that can be reflected back at the jar.
