They are toxic, yeah. They're not like arsenic or anything, just be careful with your dosage. The same can be said of most drugs.

Whats neat about amanita muscaria is that its ecology is mycorrhizal, which means the mycelium grows amongst the roots of a tree and forms a mutually beneficial relationship with the tree. Its like in avatar, lol. The mycelium retains lots of water and passes it off to the tree roots, thus extending the roots' reach by many times. The tree takes nutes photosynthesised in its leaves and sends it down the line through the roots to the mycelium. cool stuff.

however, the actives in this are a deleriant, and consumption for recreational use, well I just wouldn't recommend. It can be very dangerous, as you will lose control of your body, and you can easily injure yourself.

Wikipedia:

Quote:

The deliriants (or anticholinergics) are a special class of acetylcholine-inhibitor hallucinogen. The term was introduced by David F. Duncan and Robert S. Gold to distinguish these drugs from psychedelics, such as LSD, due to their primary effect being one of inducing a medical state of frank delirium.

Effects

The delirium produced is characterized by stupor, utter confusion, confabulation, and regression to "phantom" behaviors such as disrobing and plucking. Other commonly reported behaviors include holding full and lifelike conversations with imagined people, finishing a complex, multi-stage action (such as getting dressed) and then suddenly discovering you had not even begun yet, and being unable to recognize one's own reflection in a mirror.

The effects have been likened to sleepwalking, a fugue state or a psychotic episode (particularly in that the subject has minimal control over their actions and little to no recall of the experience). This is a notable departure from typical hallucinogens.

That's strange. It's cool how the active compound in morning glory seeds, LSA (d-lysergic acid amide), is very closely related to LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) yet it has such a different effect. What a difference attaching a NH2 instead of a N(C2H5)2 can have.

Amanitas are not like datura. Datura/dramamine are anticholinergics and amanitas are cholinergics, meaning they have the opposite effect. Datura has actually been used as an antidote for amanita poisoning.
