it needs more study, that's for sure

to the untrained eye, they can look like quite a bit like some other more dangerous little brown mushrooms that are much more common. It's not quite as distinctive like cyans are

this is a benefit for more experienced hunters because fewer people will mess with them...they don't look anything like cyans

related strains/species are showing up in the PNW too

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=15210909&page=0&vc=1#15210909

also, I just tested about 5 specimens from this exact same patch from 1 year ago, kept in vacuum, they are still just as potent as ever..at least equal to cyans

the only problem is they are one heck of a pain in the ass to try and cultivate. so cyans remain much easier to deal with, at least for our SF weather patterns

it's fairly logical actually..These seem to be sort of struggling to adapt to SF and the west coast...If it were easier, you'd be seeing more of it, which is why it's not very common yet here

not like the east coast and Ohio, anyway, which is supposedly where these come from...I guess..LOL

So is fog really something to look for? I'm know seasoned hunter but I just curious. I live out in the middle of cow fields and vineyards every morning I pass heavy patches of fog, didn't know if it was something to keep an eye out for

yeah, fog is just higher humidity and usually keeps the area cooler...that always helps. It's certainly better than dry east wind heatwaves

here's what just 4 days of the dry east wind/heatwave can do to a patch

SF ovoids 10-15-11

this is the exact same patch as this 4 days ago

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/15210650#15210650

you can see how dried up they got..still salvageable, but they won't make it past the next rain, except for the few pins. It'll be another week or two before it picks up again

I went out this morning into the hills, just a photo hike rather than looking for majik.

I was amazed at how arid it is already after a good rain last week.  I was further amazed to find some Oysters, not only nice looking, but completely fresh and new.  Growing out of dry ground.

And right after finding the oysters, I found some poison.

Yeah, the Omphalotus were either a few days beyond their prime or just drying out.  I can certainly understand either way, I sure didn't expect to find anything out there worth looking at.

Holy shite, I have seen hundreds of those pans cint. This is my 2nd year hunting and I thought those were actives but never fully investigated. Nice find, BTW. Damn, I am going out to see if I can find some. How strong are they? I see that they don't turn blue very often. Is that because, they have mostly psilocin?

No on the psilocin thing.  That is responsible for the bluing.  Psilocybin is the non bluing tryptamine.

Cincts aren't very potent, perhaps 1/3 to 1/2 of cube potency.  But apparently much more smooth of a feel.
