early pinning in jars, now no pins?
    #15180263 - 10/05/11 07:52 AM (13 years, 3 months ago)

Okay so I had early pinning on my Verm/coffee/flour cakes and the substrate was not fully colonized.  I figured I had to much fae from the holes I drilled. Anyways the cakes started to pin so I  birthed them and did a dunk and roll and picked of the early pins. I am risking contamination but there is not much I can do if its starting to focus on pinning

My problem is that it has been 3 days and I havent seen any signs of pinning. The cakes look healthy to me as well.

My humidity is good amd I'm usinga shotgun chamber with indirect sunlight as a light source.

What's going wrong here or am I being impatient?

3 days is nothing. wait 15 and if you have nothing then you might have an issue.

but if your cakes are fully colonized then you probibly wont make it that long before they contaminate. did you remove the uncolonated part?

Its because they didnt get a chance to consolidate so now that is what they are going to do for the next couple days, you will most likely have to redunk.

Ya I removed the uncolonzied parts. Also I still don't get it. If its pinning early then shouldn't it restart pinning after a dunk?

Just my experience in it and I'm risking a lot with these cakes. I was going to do bulk but nevergot thexhance with these.

It'll start pinning again when it has consolidated it's hold on the sub. It started pinning early for another reason. Most commonly it would be: Tall jars, substrate packed down too tight, or response to a bacterial problem...
