Making an an aquarium heater fully submersible?
    #15179350 - 10/04/11 11:36 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

I bought this aquarium heater to use in an incubator using 2 plastic tubs and some water because it's getting really cold here and I don't have proper heating. The problem is it's not fully submersible. There is a hole where the cord goes into it that water could easily seep into and ruin it. Is there any type of recommended ways to fix it or maybe a water proof sealant that would stick to plastic?

Go get a little space heater.  They are like tall fans that blow out.  They can keep a whole house warm and they only cost about $50.  Think of one of those ion-air things, but with heat.

You can buy a fully submersible aquarium heater for like $10.

This one cost $10 at the local pet store. It even said it was fully submersible on the packaging, but there is no way that's possible with the 'hole' there. I threw the packaging away without noticing it days later after throwing it into my closet until I needed it. I didn't see any other ones there that looked different than this.

If it says it is fully submersible and it has the UL stamp on it I wouldn't worry about the hole one bit. It should have a gasket under the plastic cap where the power cord goes in.

Step one: turn the heater into a heat bomb
Step 2:?????
Step 3: grow mushrooms
