Brf Cakes to Poo-Sterile Procedure

This is my first grow. I purchased some spore syringes and knocked up some BRF jars(20 in all). I have 14 of them that are colonizing very nicely. I have 6 that seem to have some black growth which i assume to be mold. i have quarantined them. I know i should throw them away, but as I want to become familiar with common contams i am keeping them out in a tool shed that i never use. I want to birth about half of them as cakes just for the experience, and the other half i would like to spawn to cow poo. I have read many poo teks and think i have a decent grasp of what i need to do. My questions are: after pasteurizing poo and leaving out overnight to drain how do i ensure that the poo is free on contams(i plan to use a cheese grater on my cakes by the way) before loading in my tray for full colonization? Also, how can i check on my trays without removing the aluminum foil to ensure that I have reached full colonization and am ready to put in fruiting chamber? When poo trays are colonizing is the humidity important, or is that only during fruiting? Or is all of this really unecessary as I am dealing with fully colonized BRF cakes? I hope someone can take the time to help this newbie. Much thanks.

If you're going use contaminated cakes as spawn, you're just goin to be transfering the contams to your substrate and you'll just be growing mold, Just toss em.

why would you leave it out overnight to dry????
When mixing Poo... bring it to field capacity, put it into a jar with no lid, cover it with foil, put it (them) in the canner, stick a meat thermometer in the middle one. Bring it up to around 160-170 and turn down the heat... let it sit that way for at least 60-90 minutes. Take it out, leave it covered with the foil while its cooling. Use it as soon as its cool....
Watch this video... click here It will give you a general idea....

I was told to pasteurize the dung in a pillowcase in water at the temps you mentioned. I then read just to leave it out overnight to drain as opposed to manually draining to bring it to the desired water content. Is this not right? Thanks for your help

Welcome to the Shroomery, it seems you've been a just like me for a while.
a. Basically pasteurize the poo just like he said b. maybe use a clear tub and cover it with duct tape, then remove the tape to see how it's coming; or just put the clear tub in a dark place. Light really isn't a bad thing. c. the humidity shouldn't be messed with after you case with the poo, the micro climate that it generates will be enough.
It's a little harder to case using BRF cakes than grain, however, if you follow the tek to a T you should do fine. And if it doesn't work out, then try, try again.
Cheers & Welcome!

Ive found using anything in a pillow case makes a very big mess! lol
Im sure it works great for straw, but Im not sure about Poo. I most certainly wouldnt leave any substrate in a wet cloth bag outside for any length of time....

With the cakes you'll likely be using perlite to get your RH to the right level. For the cased HPoo, the FC shouldn't need much to maintain a high enough humidity level. You can always mist if you think it's low! Or, you could throw a layer of perlite on the botton of the Hpoo container and then case directly onto that; but that could also result in a waterlogged mess.
& for sure your pillow case will be quite messy lol. Cheese/Wort bags from a home brew store might better suit your needs, as long as the poo is more fibrous than not.
