selected ambient works vol II
    #1507696 - 04/30/03 01:04 PM (20 years, 11 months ago)

check out selected ambient works vol II by Aphex Twin. Classic double album - Richard D. James found a way to record his brainwaves and convert them to music. This is essential.

if you are listening to aphex twin by MP3 instead of CD,
you are missing out on %77 of his genious...

imo, most of the music we discuss here needs to be played from CD to be fully appreciated.
not to mention that most of the artists could really use our $ vote support.

I'm glad you brought up this album since I haven't seen it mentioned before. All any seems to talk about around here is sphongle. Which isn't half as trippy as saw II in my opinion. Shiny metal rods has to be my favorite on the disc. I just love it's jolting start which snaps you back to reality for just a few seconds. This album is a master piece. Definetly aphex twins best work.

I always associate Autechre when i hear about Aphex. There's a brilliant album by them called LP5, and also Tri Repeatae++. If there's any aphex fans that haven't heard them, go now. They're also a member of the Warp family

i remember when i first started smoking pot, i would listen to selected ambient works 85-92, namely the song "xtal." it was/is beautiful. also, i suggest smoking lots and lots of pot, putting on a nice pair of headphones, and listening to "mt saint michel + saint michaels mount," the 10th track on disc one of drukqs. by the end of the song your mind will be shattered. i wonder what its like on shrooms.........

aphex twin rapes shpongle, they're not even in the same league.

as far as sawII songs, I'm aroused by radiator and stone in focus.

is stone in focus even on sawII? I forget.

I've heard a ton of things about Aphex...
Weird things such as if you watch a certain song thru an oscillator, it has a design of his face. Things like this, mathematical formulas, etc. Anyone have any sources or heard anything else of this nature?

Yes. Yyyeeeeeeeeesssssss.

Tri Repeatae is one of my favorite albums. I think that that album and Incunabula are the best music ever made for the DXM experience. They are both very clean but Tri Repeatae in particular makes me feel so mortal. Like a beautiful vulnerable flesh machine.
LP5, is that the album with acroyear2, 777,rae,etc... on it? I only have the insert with the track list anymore and i forgot what it'scalled. Or are you confusing it with ep7?
Autechre. Hell yes.

I hate to be negative, but compared to Ambient works volume once, numbe two was more commercial and had him going back to his annoying Industrial Strength type distorted crap.
Ambient Works volume one was soothing, serene and at the same time randomly bizzare. The second volume lacks all these qualities, and he is regurgitating concepts and sounds that he has done before and much better,
I stick to Friends, lovers and Family, Sequential, Space is the Place and Sphongle!!
Sven Vath was cool at one stage too - before he went into the commercial gay dance scene. Goa rocks!! Psytrance!!

dont take this the wrong way, im not trying to be a dick, but i never really figured out why so many people on this board like shpongle so much. i downloaded some stuff (a whole cd, so not just a couple songs), and i was sorta unimpressed...like its cool and all but i just dont see what the big deal is. maybe if someone explains why they like it so much i can listen to it in a new light, so to speak.

my personal theory is that shpongle is preferred to aphex/autechre/etc on this board because they have a warmer, more pleasant sound, with the flutes and chant samples and what not. This makes for good trip music, for many people.

Yes, Aphex is much darker and disturbing than shpongle. Some people may get negative vibes from it. To me Shpongle will make for a pleasent trip but does not have the depth or immersivness as aphex.
