two questions

when using a spore syringe it is ok to heat the needle with a lighter to sterilize it right before you inculate your jars? I was under the impression that spores were killed by heat.

is any fanning / fresh air needed when jars are colonizing???

Well, you will be heating the needle, not the syringe itself. A lighter will do the job. A butane lighter or a alcohol burner is better (for the only reason a damn bic lighter gets really hot after a couple of seconds!) When your needle is sterilized, you must eject a bit of solution out of the syringe just to cool down the needle.  I usually make 4 injections per jar.  I heat the needle and hurry to make my 4 injections.  I guess some people heat the needle after each injection.  I'm not doing it because i'm a cheap ass that doesn't want to screw too much spore solution by heating a filled needle and killing the 0,1 cc left in it and screwing another 0,2 cc for cooling down the needle

No fresh air really needed when colonizing.  You jars should be sealed with tape on the holes.  At around 50% colonization, remove tapes and flip jars for a little air exchange.  It will be enough.

good luck!
