who is right?
    #15174094 - 10/03/11 08:57 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

I do A LOT of research on shroom growing these days just to learn more. On this site, I saw a lot of people saying multiply your jars by .25 to see how much water to put (5 jars = 5 x .25 = 1.25 = 1.25 of water)...but the RR video says 1 cup for 5 jars. Maybe thats why sometimes my jars take forever to colonize? does that extra quarter cup of water make a difference or is it too much? who is right?

Just put a 2:1 ratio verm to water and that is perfect. For me I do twelve jars 1400ml/700ml/700ml (verm/water/brf) so 12 jars / 5 = 2.4 times more jars. Therefore 700ml/2.4 = 290ml.

Haha that's what I do. I just thought maybe it would colonize it faster and thats why some people do it. Good to know though. RR Method is the way I go. I can't believe I love learning about this and growing shrooms just for a hobby haha. Never really interested in learning about stuff like this but this, I love it

I follow the 2-1-1 and have very fast colonization. Colonization times can vary based on a lot of things like how tightly the substrate is packed, genitics, how much gas exchange, temps (to a degree) etc. Just follow the 2-1-1 and you should be alright.

For 10 jars I used 2 cups of water and 2 cups of BRF and 4 cups of Verm. Worked like a charm

I just mix it all up in a bowl, about equal parts of verm and brf... then add a little water...  I mix it by hand, and bring it up to "field capacity".  Id say its about what is in RR's video... close enough.  I have no problems.

These last jars I made I also added some h-poo, tiny bits of straw, peat moss and  little gypsum.  brought it all up to field capacity and jared it up loose...  knocked them up, and they have already colonized way faster than my regular brf jars did....  same "strain" but still MS.

If anything I've only seen people swear by making it with less water, not more.

Rr's recipe is with fine grade verm.....courser grades will require less water
