If you use the advanced search it weeds those out for ya.

sof4r0ckeRs1984 said: I think it is both sides of a story: There are really a lot of newbies who don't know anything at all... in fact, we all started that way. On the other hand it is very hard to explain even the basics of mushroom growing to somebody who until then doesn't have the slightest idea of the organisms and the procedures.
For that reason the site "Let's grow mushrooms" is often recommended in the board, so that people can get a grip on the basic techniques.
And then there are people who are really being very impolite. I don't name anybody but I know what's up.
Last thing to say I understand both sides and I realize that the OPs problem cannot really be solved because when you're new, you don't really know where to start and when you're experienced you can't always see who is really willing to learn and what the visitors expectations are.
It's so simple, yet so complicated. The only thing that can be done is to be polite and to inform yourself properly.
But I think you are seeing a lack of community if I get you right?
It wasn't that confusing for me. You start at the top of the page where it says "mushroom info," and go down to "grow mushrooms." From there you see the tabs "getting started" and "general cultivation."
Wow... Was that so confusing? Did I lose anyone?
Information download happens 100x faster if you take 10 seconds to look at the site instead of a week waiting for a good answer from a member.
I think members get annoyed because some noobs seem like they don't care about mushrooms, they just want to trip balls or sell them. There are many members here who GENUINELY love this hobby, and it is frustrating to see people who just want to take short cuts and end with a final product.
If you are really interested in learning about this hobby, you would have the motivation to find this info yourself. I'm sorry, but I vote 100% that reading and researching for yourself are the fastest and easiest ways to gain knowledge in this hobby.

Maybe what this site could use is a feature withholding forum access/ability to post, until the newly registered user has read through all FAQs, Stickied threads, and eveyrthing under the "Mushroom Info" tab. Alternatively, if a post is made that contains the basic keywords that make up a typical lazy noob question, some insane algorithm could detect it and provide the typical answer instead of allowing the post to go through. So many threads in a single day that ask basically the exact same thing

That would make the forums pretty legit... But it seems a little too restrictive.

I'm still amused that a 'merlot induced rant' struck a nerve with so many.
Maybe there should be a seperate forum specifically based on the innocent grape vine, and it's demonic fruit Newbs, freaks and just plain dumb folk welcome all day long

I agree with you.Since joining the community i've never felt the need to ask any questions, as a simple search, or browse will give you more than enough information to cultivate a succesful crop of sacred fungi.Regardless of how obvious, and annoying it may be to some of us, it's a fact of life that some people will find this site, ignore the well laid out guidelines, and then proceed to ask the same old questions that have been asked and answered many, many times before.
I joined in this thread to interject a bit of humour into a long drawn out argument that revolves around confused, lazy, excited...... people, who want to grow mushrooms for whatever purpose they see fit, but don't have the required etiquette to navigate a public internet forum. If these people annoy you so much, just ignore them, don't reply to the thread. You sound stressed brother. No need

It took me awhile to get good at using the search bar but i have found
%99 of my answer's from using it. I have never been shunned or treated
differently by anyone on this site. My questions have always been answered
politely and accurately I'm 2 weeks away from having some fruit from my
labors and it's all due to the information I have found and asked for.
Thank you to all who have came before me!!

When I came here one year ago there was said to be a lot of outdated info in the growing informations... Knowing that is not really a help when you search for infos you can trust. I think they have been working on it.

The main page was quite outdated, but they've been revamping it for a while. If you search the forums though, you can set the date so you don't have to worry about old threads, and then search for what you need.
I lurked on the Shroomery and was doing my own grows for a year before I even made an account. It's not that hard.

No, it is not, you're right. Listen, back in the nineties when we didn't even have internet, I studied a book on mushroom growing from a grow shop, but as I came here everything was different and I had to sort out right from wrong. Which IS difficult!
I had never heard about the PF method until I came here and vermiculite was a puzzle to me ^^
Also I realized that most vendors give the impression that growing mushrooms is not really anything you have to think about Also the exaggerated text next to spore offers suggest that mushrooms rather get more mystified than demystified. The effects are what you can see in the boards lol

I don't think we need to be easier on noobs, this site is plush enough for them already. On many forums not reading the rules and FAQ then posting a dumb question gets you banned immediately. If you feel like answering a noob question that's fine, but tell them to read the FAQ and use search. A lot of noobs when told to use search have a bratty response of "oh its just a quick question your being a jerk". This attitude is the same for people who litter, park illegally and other annoying shit and they need to be called out on it.

He didnt say they should be banned, he said thats what other websites do.
A lot of the newb questions on here probably dont seem like a big deal to a lot of people, but when you start answering the same question over and over and you finally decide to tell the next guy to just use the damn search engine and they throw a little bitch fit about it, it just gets so damn annoying. But if you dont say something, half the time you see other newbs telling them to do some horrible idea.
