I have yet another backyard find - ID Request
    #15166558 - 10/02/11 01:44 PM (9 years, 7 months ago)

Habitat:Where does it grow? Eg. woods, pasture, state, province, country, altitude, etc. What does it grow on? Eg. soil, dung, wood (dead, living, what kind of wood?)
Found on well fertilized (and watered) grass, suburban

Gills:Color, attached/not, gills/pores
brown, not attached

Stem: Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick
Very fragile (first thing i noticed because it broke in two places when i picked it) NOT hollow, and is brown in color

Cap:Diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc: Diameter is less than 1/2 inch, texture is bumpy (could be from bugs crawling on it) Conical

Spore print color:
So far it looks black, but not many spores have dropped just yet

Bruising:
None observed.

Other information:
Has a very strong mushroom smell

:mushroom2:Species found::mushroom2:
P. azurescens
P. cyanescens
P. semilanceata
P. pelliculosa
P. stuntzii

Please get a better camera... or borrow one, or take a photos of them on white paper not aluminium foil. That glare sucks. Would love to help but... base on how brittle the mushroom is and black sporeprint, if it is black, would suggest Psathyrella sp. but it could just be an old Pan. cinctulus too.

RIP Matt, your friendship and your contributions to the world of fungi will be missed. Unfortunately we never got to hunt together.

Trust me this camera is fine, i think the aluminum foil threw it off a bit. Ill retake the pics

EDIT:

I noticed the cap is turning a lighter brown after drying out a bit

Even with the new pics it's difficult - if indeed you have a black spore print colour then you probably have a panaeolus - but I would tend to think that based on what you have shown it will actually have a brown spore print and it would then be a Panaeolina foenisecii - non-active unless you count 5htp  .

Maybe find a few more specimens in better shape and photograph them using daylight ... a window should be enough. Also the correct spore-print colour would be useful.

Cheers

Well I checked the print and its really faint black, faint enough to possibly be brown so im leaning towards Pan foenisecii

Yeah, probably this time of year... best to find some more examples and take some more prints.

Cheers and happy hunting!
