Give the noobs in this forum a little slack.

I myself have been reading and researching this site for a couple months now. I don't plan on growing anything (maybe some Shitake or Oysters down the road) but during the hours and hours I have spent fascinated, reading about peoples grows and different Teks, the one thing that was lacking was some sort of active human participation. This is a message forum, the library has encyclopedias where being silent is the norm. Yes there is WAY more then enough info on the site to never have to ask a question. I have noticed plent of noobs get told to search, search, search. A large sum of people have been here for years and are MAJOR contributors to all the expert knowledge contained here. I bet it was a great time back 7-10 years ago to discuss things among other people, sharing and disputing information and Teks. It just seems from what I have seen in the last couple of months is if your not posting a grow log or some new out of this world info and your a noob, you get brushed off in some way or another (It's not always but should it be at all?) So even if the question is simple, even if it has been brought up numerous times before. Take a few seconds to maybe provide a short answer or maybe your favorite thread link and possibly some encouragement, otherwise just ignore the post. If a person does seem to be getting out of control however with one question after another after another, I believe the trusted experienced moderators can spot this and have ways ranging from advice on how to search to warnings to a ban to handle such situations.
Part of this is a Merlot induced rant but it is something I have noticed.

Nothing wrong with a Merlot induced rant. A very fine variety. Valid point also.

Yes it is a message forum, but to have the same questions asked over and over, cluttering the message board with questions they could have easily found the answer to. There are legitimate questions asked everyday, but for every one good one 20 more get asked about something they could have took a minute to find. If the newb was discussing something they researched and asked for feedback on that research, that would be a different story. But most of the time it's them wanting someone else to do their research for them. I am a newb myself, a successful one though and I attribute that to lots and lots of research. I asked a total of two questions before my first grow, and they were on things I had researched and found conflicting answers. But I am now reaping the benefits of my research

It can be annoying to answer the same question a few times every day though, which is why people are told to use the search function so often.
Also, it's annoying to see off topic threads like this one in mush cult.

Agreed, I search a LOT. Continuously reading teks in order to learn more and succeed at this hobby. But there just is no substitute for experienced, first hand, information. Searching for and reading a tek is good. Someone who has used that tek and experienced success or failure giving you info is PRICELESS! I look forward to being adept enuff to answer all the stupid newb questions. After all this whole thread is under the "community" category and newbs are a part of the community.

I learned everything and did my first grow succesfully without ever asking a question on the forum.
It's annoying when somebody asks a question, and you use the search to answer it, and it takes less than 5 seconds to find a perfect thread. Sometimes it feels like you are doing the work for them, when you know they are just too stupid to figure it out themselves.
If they are confused about conflicting info, then that is one thing. I love clearing up a confusing issue to a noob in need. But when it's an easy question with straight-forward answer, the ONLY advice I would give them "READ!"
Not only that, but if you want to be successful you're asking such simple, redundant questions, then you probably need to read more anyways, or else you are going to fail.
Noobs don't get picked on for being inexperienced. They get picked on for being lazy pieces of shit. Noobs with bad questions don't need answers because the most useful answer you can give them is "search and read before you get started."

If it's annoying then don't reply. If I see someone ask a question that I know the answer to, I have two choices: answer the question, or don't answer the question. I'm not sure why people are so concerned with noob questions, I mean who really cares? It's not like this forum is SOO over flowing with new threads everyday. I check the site a few times a days and there is never more then a page and a half of new posts. Big deal.
The problem is, is sometimes people have a legitimate question, but perhaps the title is worded poorly, so the "annoyed regulars" just pass it by, without offering any help. Pay your dues guys. Whether you got all your information yourself, or someone helped you along the way, pass the information along to someone else. That's what makes this site great. Try to do it in a way that's not gonna push someone away, such as "Uhh, let me google that for you!" or "Use the search noob!"
If you know the question can easily be answered by using the search, then search the thread and post it to the new thread. Show people around. Or don't, it's your choice. There's just no need to be rude.
If someone was new to your house and asked where the bathroom was, you wouldn't say "Duh! It's upstairs, third door on the right! Stupid noob!"
Just my two cents.

I agree with not being rude, but I would respond (without calling them stupid) to a guest in my house that couldn't find the bathroom if there was floor plans to my house at the front door.

I agree man. Hastey and uncalled for. My bad. I was referring to those specific ones that post 5 questions a day when the same question is one page over... You know. That's just inconsiderate. Asking people to take their time answering you just because you can't read.
And yeah you can ignore, but then it's clutter that sits in the forum because noobs like to bump their posts every 5 hours or so. It's better to send them a link and have them on their way so their post can get buried under some real info.

Went I first came here I always used the search function before asking a question and the first 20 results are always someone asking the exact question you need answered and about 10 responses telling him to use the search function without actually answering the question. If your going to take the time to tell someone to use the search function answer their question or at least post a link to a relevant thread so future noobs don't have to sift through tons of useless "use the search function" threads to find the information they need and then they might not ask those questions.

lol. options a and 3 are plausible, but I'm baked 24/7, and I think that I still articulate my questions and posts in the proper way.
BTW, you must be tripping balls or high as a kite, cause your list goes "a, b, 3"

Sometimes a short answer isnt good enough then the OP just asks more questions for more info.
As stated previously 20 of the same posts a day from brand new accounts asking the same questions answered dozens of times is really annoying.
Whats worse is when someone posts a question THAT people read and choose not to answer because its been answered a million times and they respond with "viewed 300 times and no answer!? WTF?" that really irks me.
People are and can be lazy fucks especially youngins as in new to the hobby or chronologically and you tell someone enough times to use the search bar usually they will because they know next time they are just going to be told to search it.
10 years ago in the hayday would have been a cool thing to see with all the experimenting going on though!

If you use the advanced search it weeds those out for ya.

I think it is both sides of a story: There are really a lot of newbies who don't know anything at all... in fact, we all started that way. On the other hand it is very hard to explain even the basics of mushroom growing to somebody who until then doesn't have the slightest idea of the organisms and the procedures.
For that reason the site "Let's grow mushrooms" is often recommended in the board, so that people can get a grip on the basic techniques.
And then there are people who are really being very impolite. I don't name anybody but I know what's up.
Last thing to say I understand both sides and I realize that the OPs problem cannot really be solved because when you're new, you don't really know where to start and when you're experienced you can't always see who is really willing to learn and what the visitors expectations are.
It's so simple, yet so complicated. The only thing that can be done is to be polite and to inform yourself properly.
But I think you are seeing a lack of community if I get you right?
