First time casing!

it was so much easier than I thought it would be. I highly recommend anyone who has succeeded at the pf tek to immediately move forward to casing.
they are sitting in their trays now... growing into one large mycelium...
I used the "casing 101" technique, mainly, but I read a whole bunch of the articles and essentially came up with: sterilizing verm, then mixing with more BRF and pasteurizing the mixture. I wanted to try some other casing mixtures, but I suppose the next batch will go that way.
no pictures now, as they are not really that interesting... hoping to have a great yield

That sounds like a 100% chance of failure. BRF MUST be sterilized and remain sterile until fully colonized.
Casing pf cakes has long been known to be inferior to fruiting them as cakes. Either spawn to bulk substrate or fruit as cakes. RR

where did you get the idea of mixing brf into the casing layer?

If you want to move on from PF Tek, read up on spawning to bulk.

this actually from my friend. he worked for a mycoremediation firm for a while. we were discussing whether or not adding it into the case layer would be a good idea or not, and we decided that it would be interesting to find out.
and RR, we used the cakes because, well, we had a bunch and wanted to try them cased. bulk is our next "experiment". I guess I should have said that the BRF was sterilized too, but I'm curious as to what you mean. does the pasteurization not accomplish this?

hmmm, this really doesn't make sense at all. think about what it took to get your jars colonized. you had to sterilize those jars not pasteurize them. you can't pasteurize spawn or cakes.
sorry, but you're all mixed up.
