slowly spreading purple/dark blue patch = contam or bruising?
    #15164920 - 10/01/11 11:44 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

Hi guys,

I've noticed a dark blue/purplish patch that's been slowly growing in size over the past few days in this grow (KSSS multispore rye spawned to coir/verm/gypsum, fruit in GH).

It doesn't have the same color as trich and I don't see any of the bright white trich mold either, although if I sniff the substrate I *think* I catch a faint whiff of it. It looks like bruising, but it's been spreading in that patch. I have been misting heavily because there are so many pins, but not particularly in that region... so I would have expected this color in other places of the cake if it were just bruising from the mist. Anyone have any idea what it is?

Sorry the lighting isn't great. As you can see most of the substrate is covered in hyphal knots/primordia, and they are what's changing color. What alarmed me is that the area started as just a thin strip on the left but it's been growing to the right.

If I were you, I would clone some of those pins before burying the tray outside.

That looks really dark for bruising. It is blue though.  I dunno, I guess better safe than sorry.  That's a shame as the pin set looks really nice. :frown:

does it look like its growing on top of the white mycelium or is it discoloration of the myc itself? . take a cotton swab and wipe that spot to see if it come off. if so it might be mold but you might have great luck outside with it. ive had a bunch of good grows outside from spent or contam cakes

There's no way it's discolored myc. You can see that black shit eating up his pins/primordia. Nothing that the myc is doing would cause a black discoloration like that.

Hey guys, I confirmed this morning that it spread further and had some wispy mold over the pins. Because pinning already started I'll try to treat it the same as a trich patch by pouring salt over it. Anyone have any idea what specific mold this was?
