Removing cakes from jars?

So my jars are just about fully colonized and I'm inquiring if there is any trick to getting them out. I had a few contaminated jars that I had too empty that I wasn't worried about damaging them but the only way I could get em out is with a butter knife. That sounded like a bad idea to do wit the ones I want too fruit soo please if any1 has a pointer share it with me

first of all, where did you remove them at? you should have just thrown the jars away, you could have endangered your entire set up
second, its called birthing
third, no just give them a little tap on a hard surface and they should fall right out
also, you could have jars like ive used, they look like they are tapered but there is a bulge at the top so they aren't actually tapered

The cake should actually shrink a bit if it's fully consolidated. Are you giving it the full week (7 days) to consolidate? Once the cake shrinks up a bit and pulls away from the walls of the jar, it should practically fall out. Are you sure you don't have the tapered wide mouth jars? There shouldn't be a shoulder on the jar, it should just be straight.

This.
If you have a hard time getting the cakes out, then there is something wrong. They should shrink a bit and actually pull away from the sides. Should come right out without issue.

Digging around in a contaminated jar with a butter knife doesn't sound like the healthiest of choices. :P Just kidding, but seriously might want to be mindful of the fact that we never really do know what contaminations have been grown.
Did you by chance open them in a bucket of bleach or something? I did that and the cakes were hard to get out after soaking in all the bleachy goodness. Other cakes just snap right out with a little force, but that is the only time I had to go digging (outside as well, btw).

If they dont pop out, i usually just get them out the top as much as possible, smash the bottom of the jar, and pull the cake through the bottom. Takes practice, and sometimes you will get glass shards on your cakes, but for me its better then ordering the proper jars online.

Let them fully colonize the jar and then give a full week for consolidation, it still has the core of the jar to colonize. After a full week the cake will have shrunk up and will just slide right out.
Otherwise, your cakes won't grow shit, they'll just sit in the FC continuing to colonize the substrate.
