So basically I've got a 1/2 pint jar of fully colonized popcorn that I use to do GLC's. It's been used for a GLC about 3 times and is almost 100% colonized again. I'm going to try a different strain soon and I might as well case this thing rather than just toss it. The other jars won't be ready to case for about a week or so. I'm thinking maybe like, 1/2 pint of spawn to a pint of substrate? that's 1:2 spawn:"bulk". in one of those small little aluminum pans? I could actually sterilize that bulk sub, and mix the whole thing in a glove box, seal with foil, holes for GE with micropore tape. It'd be so cute! anyone ever done one of these? if so, any pointers or things to beware of?

I think you mean "spawn" not "case"
And dont sterilize the bulk sub, pasteurize it.

Pasteurization is good and all for large bulk grows. for a total substrate volume as small as this would be, you could literally do everything totally sterile in a glove box, if you wanted.

yeah that would probably work and you'd probably get a couple of good flushes out of it, but it may contam quickly because of the lack of beneficial bacteria.

also, i heard that aluminium gets torn up by the mycellium. i would use plastic.

but try it, and see how it works!

yeah it'll probably be a plastic tub of some kind. wrapped in black tape. any ideas how much coir I'll need for a 1 pint jar of 50/50? a small amount I'm sure, but i'm not sure how much the stuff expands.
