It wouldn't work. It would take waaaaay to long to colonize and by that time, using a pseudo pasteurization tek like Damion's it would contam for sure.

what makes you think it would take too long? i should mention i want to use a 1/4 scale mix in a much smaller tub. from what i've read the LC colonizes very quickly in other mediums and depends mostly on how many inoculation points you use. mixing the entire jar in the substrate should be great in theory...

I have read a lot of different threads about this, and it just doesn't seem to work. Plus mixing the LC may be too much for it to handle. I would suggest doing agar slants if you do want to try this experiment. Agar slants colonize much quicker then LC. especially if you had enough slants to cut up into small pieces and offer a lot of different points of colonization. In a sense your trying to colonize a large cake with a lot of LC. Even when people use sterilized pint cakes innoced with LC, the failure rate is still pretty high. So if sterilized pint cakes don't fair too well imagine how a pseudo pasteurized substrate at a much larger volume would fair?
