I wouldn't do this next time. Just put them in a ziplock bag, then put the ziplock bag in a jar with a silica gel package. Close and store the jar in a dry, cool place.

Seal the ziplock bag and close the lid of the jar

works great doing it this way. as far as loosing potency from the heat would be minuscule. Im pretty new at this and i was using damp rid to dry mine and wondered about the whole dehydrator setup. so measured out the exact same amount dried from both ways and there was no difference in the way i felt and this has been back by my family who has also tried both. I only have one setting on my dehydrator so i just let them air dry for a bit before putting them in the dehydrator so they don't have to be in as long. they finish 2.5 days faster and they just as potent. don't be afraid to get them really dry. I store mine in a large unfinished wooded box that seals with a bunch of silica packets in it. I store the mushrooms in paper bags inside the wooden box. been working great so far. Ive had a large amount in there for about 2 months now and there has been no change in color or texture. hope this helps!

If you know anyone that works in shipping at a store like sears or walmart, they throw aways tons of silica gel packets. my buddy works in shipping at sears and he brings me a 100+ packets from there a week that are just gonna get thrown away. silica absorbs O2 and damp rid absorbs HO2.

I've had this happen before, I'm pretty sure it's from humidity in the air finding it's way into the bag. For long term storage you should use silica gel packets (as already mentioned). There are usually sellers on ebay if you are having trouble finding them. If you can only get Damp-Rid, get a jar, put Damp-Rid at the bottom, place some insect screen above the Damp-Rid (fashion a little platform), and then put your shrooms on top. I use this method when I have no Silica Gel packets, and there is no noticeable loss in potency. I probably wouldn't recommend it for long-term storage though.

i'd assume they would have to be kept in a sealed container, or they would already have absorbed all the moisture they can hold. maybe with silica, the moisture can be baked out of it and reused like epsom salt can. idk i never used silica personally.
i used to do this epsom salt tek. it works as a great (yet very cheap) desiccant once the moisture is baked out. i used to put breathable packets of it in mason jars with the dry mushrooms.
lately i haven't even messed with the desiccant. i just put the mushrooms in sealed mason jars right off the dehydrator. if i have any doubts about particular fruits being totally cracker dry, i just leave them drying longer. also, i never open the jars back up unless it's absolutely necessary. this has been working fine so far.

Thats cool you got pins man About the print if you change your mind me. I was thinking just from looking at your one big mushroom that your conditions have to be good because the mushroom is well big and fat. Shows you have adequate hydration and fae.

The problem is finding a HUGE jar to store them all. I recently caved and acquired a vacuum sealer and vacuum bags... got sick of the ziplock bag-in-bag-in-bag method and the jars everywhere.
I like that epsom salt idea... gonna try it out!

Silica gel packets are not meant to suck out remaining moisture from the shrooms. Your shrooms must be cracker dry when you put them in a zip-lock bag. Silica gel packets are used to absorb any moisture from the air inside the tupperware or the jar.

sorry to question you mr. leopard but it doesn't seem effective to put a silica gel pack in a sealed Tupperware with a sealed bag of mushrooms - how is the silica gel going to suck out any remaining moisture from the shrooms if they're sealed in a zip lock bag?
that was the right way to go, the silica gel you got is reusable too. you can toss it in the oven and dry it out to use it again down the road.
but really you should do the tupperware/glass jar with silica outside the baggie, it keeps the environment dry so that no moisture seeps into the bag. if they're really cracker dry wheen they go in there, they shouldn't re-hydrate.
if you want the fatties to dry up faster, do what i do and slice them in half down the middle.
