This is just a straight-forward PF tek jar. Been sitting up a while, so I though it was just stalled myc at first, then I though it might be cobweb. Now its got purple spots... Donno what else to say...
Anyone seen this before?

Sorry about the crappy pics, I have tried everything and just can't get my phone to take a good pic of anything...

I don't see any discoloration according to the pictures. From what you describe, sounds like Neurospora (pink mold). Pink mold is a NASTY bugger. I'd PC those jars for a good hour before I opened them to dispose of their contents.

How necessary is it to PC before opening a contaminated jar? I've done it for every contaminated jar I've ever had, but is it just paranoia? Sure everything inside dies, but could the thing inside the jar have hurt you in the first place? I've heard that if you're in the southern USA valley fever is a problem, but what else should we be watching out for?

It's not about the endospores hurting you, it's the risk of having them stick to your clothing and everything else in your house or surronding areas when you open the jars to dump them out. It's just a (very good one) measure of protection against future contam'ed grows.
Damn OP you got shit for luck. First worms now pink/purple mold? Don't get discouraged man keep trying.

It can't be a straight-forward PF tek jar because it's the wrong size. As for seeing it before, yes we get lots of out-of-focus pictures. Why they started putting crappy pseudo-cameras in cell phones, I'll never know. Can't tell a thing.

Depends on the level of standard you'r willing to take your aseptic procedure(s) to to ensure you don't spread contaminate mold spores through out your home and growing area.
I suggested the PC disposal tek because I believe the OP has a Pink Mold infection. Pink Mold is rare and is one of the most stubborn conamintes to clean from a studying area(s). Whenever Pink Mold arrives in my studying area(s), all spawn is removed, the area(s) are deep cleaned , and new spawn is started.
The 100% safest, bullet-proof, sure-fire way to rid contaminiated contents from jars safely, is to PC the jars and it's contents. If cost is not an issue, the whole contaminated jar and it's contents can disposed of, dumpster-tek style. I prefer to recycle jars.

I hijacked the wife's phone and took some real pics. I've been keeping this jar in a separate sealed container because I just think it looks cool and I don't see the harm as long as the jar stays shut. Anyway, here's the pics. Purpleness!

It almost looks like ink, possibly a permanent marker that was exposed to a solvent (water, alcohol, something) that broke it down to a purple color? Still very difficult to tell with the textured glass jars and low quality camera.

That's Pink Mold, brah, for sure. Dispose of those jars with contents or, recycle them by PC'ing them for an hour before opening them to dispose of their contents and, scrub your studying area. Pink Mold is a very nasty, STICKY mold that easily passes through gas exchange filters. Once an area's been compromised with Pink Mold, expect it to show up in future grows unless you take the proper precautions to cleanliness of an infected area. You'v been warned.

Hey that looks like Fusarium. The mold looks like a fast growing cottony mushroom mycelium. It grows at least twice as fast as P.Cubenis mycelium. It can colonize in your syringe and contaminate your whole project.

Just, no. Please refrain from taking wild guesses. This is how mis-information is spread.

Sorry bro, this is incorrect. In those pictures are a clear-cut, text-book case of Neurospora (Pink mold), Have a look for yourself. (scroll down until you find the section over pink mold).

I am sorry for calling you a idiot I am glad you went to school. Pink Lipstick mold is not Purple. A popular vender here sent out a bad batch of syringes several years ago that had the same looking contaminate. It was later identified by popular people around here as Fusarium. I cant say for sure what that is by that picture. It just sure does look like the same stough. I am sorry for my grammer never been a strong point.

Trichoderma mycelium is white.
I'm not really worried about the spores effecting other projects, I'm worried about health effects. What pathogens can potentially grow in a jar? Has anyone gotten sick? I found "mushroom workers lung" looking for health effects, and discovered this wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypersensitivity_pneumonitis Has some other good information in it as a bonus, some bacteria that will grow in your humidifier and hurt you. Also stuff that grows on peat moss, and that entry on millers lung is interesting. As said on 'Will it Blend?' "Don't breathe this!"
And Trich mycelium is only white for a day or two, then it turns very green. I have a whole LC of the stuff, and I've been trying to figure out ways to tell a contaminated LC from a non contaminated LC, shaking it violently has had interesting results.
