a little while back, as a result of an underage drinking citation, i was ordered to take a drug and alcohol class. one of the instructors was a fucking idiot. one time, he told us that if we were drinking, it was a good idea to avoid sugar, because if you drank sugar while you were consuming alcohol, it would ferment in your stomach and get you more drunk. hahaha... some education class...
anyway... we were talking about mushrooms one time... and he says that there's something called, "the death mushroom" which is actually a mutated psilocybe mushroom that will kill you if you eat it. he said it looks just like a real mushroom, but it is deadly.... jesus christ... what a load of shit... this guy didn't know what the hell he was talking about with ANYTHING... jeez...
anyone else heard of THE DEATH MUSHROOM???

Yeah...its historical. Not by that name but its always been said eating shrooms can kill you and you cant tell them appart from real shrooms...

There are many psilocybe cubensis mushroom lookalikes, some of which are poisonous.

Ther is no P. cubensis mutant which is highly toxic.
The Death Cap, Destroying Angel are actually Amanita, Phalloides, Amanita verna and Amanita virosa. They will eat your kidney and liver up within 7 days after consumption.
Sad thing about them is that they are sneaky in your system and do not began to affect you until 16 to 30 hours or so after ingestion. By then it is usually to late.
They do not in the least resemble P. cubensis. Amanita's have pure white gills and a white spore print and P. cubensis has a chocolate to Chocolate-purple brown print.
Three species of Galerina's and one Conocybe filaris also have the same toxins in them found in the deadly Amanitas.
In 1982 a 16-year-old girl from Whibey Island accidently ate Galerinas thinking they were P. stuntzii (blue ringers). She died and two boys were put on dialysis for the rest of their lives. They did not report their illness for several days becasue they thougtht that they would be prosecuuted for doing drugs. Byt he time they all went to the hospital. Woops there goews another rubber tree. the girl died.

Sounds like a scare tactic to me. I've actually heard someone mention this to me before and I got a good chuckle out of it. It kind of reminded me of an old myth we have arond my parts about pumpkin farmers. They say that the farmers taint certain pumpkins with deadly posion. They just say this so people don't trespass on their land at night and take their pumpkins. This myth hasn't stopped any of the local hooligans from trespassing and stealing pumpkins and as far as I know there has never been any freak pumpkins toxic deaths in my lifetime, or ever for that matter.
I'm sure this works on people who are uneducated on the subject of hallucengenic mushrooms. But for thoes who have done their home work the deadly mutant mushroom is good for nothing more then a laugh.
Kind of off subject, but another good myth that I came across the other day is this guy pointlessly argued with me for 2 hours about how shrooms will make your spine bleed. He was so sure of himself he said he could prove it. I refused to argue with him becuause I knew I wouldn't get anywhere, so I placed a bet with him. He has 1 year to gather all the information he can about shrooms making your spine bleed and I have but one day to find information that states otherwise. Unless he make up bogus information there is no way he'll ever find any legitimit information on shrooms and bleeding spines.

Given a year, I can see someone whipping up a crafty convolution of anti-drug organization quotes with so-called "scientific" evidence. Maybe this person will just get bored of all the misleading runaround... unless the propoanda engines are reving up again.

Often suggested is a Patrick Hooligan and the Hooley gang who (separately) terrorized a section of London in the 1890s.
so when you call someone a hooligan you are comparing them to an Irish Murderer who was deported from England (to America I believe) ?

Its a scare tactic. The closest mushroom that will kill you that i guess someone could mistake as a cube(youd have to be really dense and clueless) is an amanita phalloides. Actually i dunno why im even posting here MJ got it covered
