    #11238135 - 10/13/09 07:53 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

i came across some Tricholoma magnivelare (N. American Pine Mushroom) and was wondering if anyone here has tried to cultivate it before. I was planning on trying. so if anyone here has done so before any tips for this species would be awesome. thanks

will they grow on pine needles or pine bark at all? If so, I am in to give it a shot as well.. I just see they are found in pine forests, but haven't seen exactly growing on what.

They are ectomycorrhizal so I doubt it'll be easy to get it growing without an associated pine. They are very closely related to the matsutake (in fact, they share their genus), which, IIRC, has yet to be successfully cultivated.

Yeah I read that they were successfully inoculated, by one guy, in pine trees for fruiting 10 years from now.. But I also read that some are grown in sawdust bags..?

hmmm. well a bunch grow on my mother in laws property and most of the time theyre growing under the moss but usually under hemlock or pine trees. they seem to love hemlock. so i dunno if theres a needle bed theyre growing on under there but it seems to me like theyre growing from the soil under the moss thats under these trees... any way, im having a tough time getting a spore print for some reason, but if i get some id be glad to share with anyone else interested in giving it a go as long as you post your experiment. maybe we could all try different methods and compare?

yeah i know. i ran around the house last night looking for tin foil or transparency film but could not find either so i painfully settled for yellow legal pad paper. but it would still be somewhat visible. i dunno. im gonna give it a few more hours. then maybe try to get a more mature specimen.

I've had no luck cloning this species on agar, MEA or PDYA.

I do want.. I read in Stamets book about being able to get them to grow out on petris, but it takes forever.. I need to go back and read more of the "how"
