Lowering temp in a very small terrarium
    #1514502 - 05/02/03 10:21 AM (20 years, 11 months ago)

A FOAF wants to know if anyone has any suggestions as to how he could lower the temp in his very small terrarium. The temp is currently 81 or so, and he thinks that may be a bit high for pinning. He would like to get it down to the 74-76 range. His terrarium consists simply of an upside down piece of tupperware that measures about 9 inches long by 4 inches wide by 8 inches deep. He already tried putting a cup of very cold water in next to the cake, but that hasn't had any results. Anyone have any suggestions for him?

Put it in a dark closet w/o a water heater. My room temp is 68-70 degrees. Your friend must like it pretty warm. Make sure the chamber is not on any appliances as they emit heat. There's a reason the chamber is at 81, find that reason and eliminate it.

Buy a 6 pack of beer.
Drink the beer.
Belch.
Fill the empty cans with water.
Put the cans in the freezer.
After they are solid put a frozen beer can into your terrarium.
When the can thaws, replace it with another.

dont you buy need to buy a case and after you drink the first 6 pack, fill those with water and continue to drink the remaining 18 beers while waiting for the ones in the freezer to freeze!

Or...

Fill a cup or bowl with ice and set it next to the cake. but this is high maintenance. turn on the air conditioner.

this guy i know has a HEPA box with 4 air lines going to 4 terrariums, he lives in a very hot part of the country and the room he is growing them in gets pretty hot (i think its a closet).
to get the temperature down he took a the air tubes, coiled them without pinching the line, and set a frozen gallon of water on top of them. he said during the night the water doesnt even need to be frozen, as the water is a lower temp than the air.
his terrariums stay 70-75F
