IMO it seems to me that yes it does allow for more GE without the tape over the holes. I always remove the tape just prior to Inoculating my jars. Others will argue it doesn't matter either way, but my luck has been with removing it after sterilization.

Interesting. But won´t it fuck up the moisture if it´s a slow colonizer? Maybe a LC is what the doctor is ordinating?

Yeah i thought so to and in the beginning i replaced the poked micropore tape, but as it seems the verm really is enough.(if the house isn't THAT dirty),i did both and don't see that much of a difference.

But maybe without the tape and still the verm as barrier its seems to help the ease of gas exchange a little.

greetings and respect JJ

I put micropore on my cake lid holes after I inoc em just in case I disturb the dry verm layer. And a lot of dust lands on my lids and in the holes.

There is a way to prep cakes without even having to use a dry verm layer. Just prep the lids with 4 silicone injection ports and a tyvek filter secured over a hole in the center and don't use a dry verm layer. Gives more room for a bigger cake too.

Im gonna have to try that sometime. I got another idea for cakes too. :naughty:

I thought about that, but that's and extra $2 every 5 jars. Spouse you could use an ear plug or polyfil to save money. Might as well just use pint jars imo

I buy a big tube of the red high temp resistant silicone and it lasts for a long time. I make my own custom silicone injection blobs.
