Possible Panaeolus cinctulus?
    #15142556 - 09/27/11 03:32 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

Hey guys,
im really excited because i think that i just found some wild Panaeolus cinctulus while walking home this afternoon. However i'm no expert so i was hoping someone could confirm/deny my claim that this mushroom is a Panaeolus cinctulus

Habitat: Found in growing in grass, some scattered mulch/wood debris surrounding mushrooms (just rained, very humid, will rain again soon)

Gills: gills are white-ish cream colored

Stem: tanish in color, thin and fragile, slightly thicker at base, bruise a darker tan/light brown

Cap: Tan to brown varying among different mushrooms picked, biggest was about a little less than an inch big, most about half that size

Spore print color: awaiting spore print now on multiple caps now, will report back when it is done

Bruising: dark tan to brown

Location: Picked in central VA

here are a few pics,

i know that the spore print is supposed to be jet black and thats the major give away, once i get a decent print i will post a pic

thanks so much!!

not quite. Pan cincts don't have decurrent gills. Nor are they that color or shape. Do some more research.

Many mushrooms have jet black spore prints, spore print color only is a dead give away for Panaeolus cinctulus when separating from Panaeolina foenisecii.  Your mushroom is neither, but a spore print color could help id it.

The next step is to do a spore print on all of them. If it is jet black it is cinctulus, and if it brown-dark brown you have foenescii

Also please post the habitat shots in your other post. If you have an ID request in the future don't use others posts, some times they can get real pissed off.
