Ashamed Of My Generation

Just after playing football last night, a few friends and I noticed an old man really struggling with his shopping. He had 3 or 4 bags of shopping and could only carry them 2 or 3 yards before having to stop for a lengthy rest.
The park where we play football has a long road parallel to it, and it was obvious he had a long way to go. We park our cars right next to where we park and I was first to leave, I had decided to offer him a lift even if it was to the end of the road.
I had driven a bit and pulled up right next to him to offer him some help, the look on his face was one of total terror. I obviousley don't know any details but it looked as if he had had a bad experience with someone of my age(mid 20s)- he was really scared.
I offered again, but he just shook his head with fear. I had no choice but to drive on feeling angry with the people of my generation.
*shakes head with shame!

I think the older guy has to take some responsibility for his own fear and negativity in assuming EVERYone in their mid 20's is a bad person even IF he DID have even one bad experince..... i think your offering to help in the first place was a very compassionate thing of you to do....i hope YOU don't let that one experience with HIM detour you from offering help again(to ANYone) at some point in the future

It won't deter me, if a similar situation occurs again I'd do the same. I agree with you that he probably has issues with young 'uns which he needs to sort out.
I don't know if its me but I hate seeing people in fear, especially the elderly!

So much fear of EVERYTHING imo, is propagated by the media....fear of anyone or anything different, fear of toxins in the environment etc. Maybe he hadn't even had a bad personal experience but chose to believe some thing(true or not) that he saw on TV, even then the person has to take some sort of responsibility for the mental sewage they let into their thoughts and/or their own willingness to accept a "worst case scenierio" as part of their reality paradigm on an ongoing basis....i know since i detatached myself almost completely from the media a few years ago i've become a lot more at ease with the world....

Maybe he was crazy.

Good for you! I always make an effort to help in situations like that and 9 times out of 10 I've usually got a postive response.

its not only our generation. its more like the WORLD. this world we live in is pretty evil and that guy has every right to be afraid to get a ride from whomever.
so its not your fault at all. its the worlds fault! of being so damn evil! haha.

whether it happened in the us or not. the world is still a pretty evil place. and I wouldn't be suprised one bit if he was from the states and had this happen to him here.

The people of your generation are not actually committing crimes at a greater rate.
