E-mail I received from www.whyprohibition.ca:
Dear Friends,
Last week, the Obama Administration launched their "We the People" website, any petition which garners 5,000 signatures will receive an official response from President Obama.
One of the top petitions so far is on the Pardon of Marc Emery. We only need another 2600 or so signatures to have an official comment on Marc, and your help would be greatly appreciated.
https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions#!/petition/pardon-marc-emery/z7QQdhq7
Goto open petitions, Search, Marc Emery to see petition.
Please share this with your friends and family who are against the imprisonment of Marc Emery.

This appears to have more support than the 'legalize cannabis' petitions.
A nice gesture, but surely will amount to little in such a format. I signed anyway, though now the Administration knows my e-mail.

It is a step in the right direction at least. There was never an "official" statement as to why Marc we denied extradition. Once he was over in American prisons not all that much has been said while he sits their being held as a political prisoner.
It may not lead to a pardon, but it will at least lead to the President having to make an official statement in regards to the issue.

Actually, the site says the 'administration' will make correspondence, it never said 'the president'. I'm sure there's been more than enough bullshit just in the White House press room since this morning EST.
So while I agree that this is a move in the right direction, and simply just a good idea in the sense of public transparency and discourse in an era where the population size makes that nearly impossible, my hopes are low as that song that was popular on 90's radio...'Low'
I think Marc Emery has been just...nearly forgotten in the govt. plane. They got reelections to keep them up at night now.

We live in a sad day when someone can be unjustly extradited to face charges in another country, when what he is accused of is not a crime in the his country.
It is sad that he is sitting in an American prison, "forgotten" about all because of his beliefs about marijuana. The guy is a freedom fighter, always has been and he knew at some point he would have to do something along these lines to stand up for what he believes in. When you do what Marc does so openly and blatantly say you want to over grow the U.S government and create so much pot that it could never be abolished you put a target on your back for sure.
I personally do everything in my power to spread the word, get people to join the why prohibition site, and to stand up for their beliefs and choice to ingest a plant. It may not change the world, but at least I know I am trying and perhaps down the road it will make a difference, who is to say

Click open petitions, search, Marc Emery, and it will show up.
I think the shroomery has it set up that any government site that is linked through it goes through anonym.to. Must be because it will not link directly to the petition.

That's probably exactly why it does that. But I'll definitely sign that one.

Despite trying both Opera and Firefox, I cannot Sign the Petition. Despite logging in successfully the Sign the Petition button is greyed out. Has anyone experienced this issue?

You trolling man?
He WAS one of the most vocal marijuana reform advocates in Canada. Wiki sums up who he is pretty well.

LOL fair enough. Read through his bio. He is a very interesting man who has always stuck up for the underdog and the little guy through out his life. He has a heart of gold and I cannot wait until he is back on Canadian soil and a free man...I have a feeling he will be releasing a book and standing up loud as ever against marijuana prohibition.
If anything this was a small set back that will ultimately bite the U.S in the ass. What happens when Marc starts selling the book he has said to have started writing in prison and starts to distribute the profits back to the marijuana reform movement instead of the profit from selling seeds?
He may be down, but he is not out.

The day of Emery's arrest, American DEA Administrator Karen Tandy admitted reasons behind the arrest were politically motivated by releasing the following statement, which praised blows dealt to the legalization movement:
Today's DEA arrest of Marc Scott Emery, publisher of Cannabis Culture Magazine, and the founder of a marijuana legalization group -- is a significant blow not only to the marijuana trafficking trade in the U.S. and Canada, but also to the marijuana legalization movement.
His marijuana trade and propagandist marijuana magazine have generated nearly $5 million a year in profits that bolstered his trafficking efforts, but those have gone up in smoke today.
Emery and his organization had been designated as one of the Attorney General's most wanted international drug trafficking organizational targets -- one of only 46 in the world and the only one from Canada.
Hundreds of thousands of dollars of Emery's illicit profits are known to have been channeled to marijuana legalization groups active in the United States and Canada. Drug legalization lobbyists now have one less pot of money to rely on.[
