Horrible day

I was retarded and forgot that to dry Boletus edulis you need to slice the mushrooms into thin slices before you dry them out. I came downstairs to check on them and noticed a bunch of maggots coming out of the cap. After that I decided to start ripping the caps open and every single one of them was filled with maggots!:mad2: I probably lost about 5 pounds of dried Porcini

I then decide to go check out my Amanita muscaria patches growing around the neighborhood and they had been trampled on(prolly kids).

I found one lone Boletus edulis and cut it up and threw it under the fan.

There better be rainfall tomorrow:mad:

Sorry guys, but I needed to vent on my stupidity

Yeah, I came home yesterday evening from a weekend at my gf's place to find the porcini I had been drying had all been pretty much consumed by the maggots that lived in there, who had consequently moved out of the half-consumed slices of drying mushroom to dry out and die off right next to their former homes. Definitely a loose-loose situation! Ah well, that's the risk of the trade...

I have been having stellar success drying my Porcini by setting the oven to 170 deg and slicing them thin, just 40 minutes or so on each side usually does the trick! They smell simply marvelous once they are dry.
