I may. I think the game looks absolutely stunning, and it supposedly plays incredibly smoothly.
The only thing that worries me is that I will get it, play through the single player in less than a week, and rarely play it again. If that is the case I figure I might as well just rent it.
I will see what the reviews say after it comes out. If it has some replay value I will most likely just buy it.

"Rage will span three discs on Xbox 360 and require an 8GB install on PS3, id Software creative director Tim Willits has confirmed. It was rumored that Rage would have a large install and multiple discs on 360, but it seemed as if id was leaning toward a slim-and-trim two-disc set, stating that a separate multiplayer disc-swap would be "fail." id didn't have to pick a disc number for the PS3 version of Rage, effectively utilizing the Blu-ray drive to hold all of the game's 8 gigs, something that Willits seemed very pleased about:
"Sony was great," Willits said. "Kudos to Sony for letting us do that. They don't allow every game to do that. So definitely, hats off. What we were able to do is install all the textures to the highest level. What is nice about the PS3 platform is that it's just one platform. Everyone has one Blu-ray drive, one hard drive, it's all the same. Some of the other systems you have... should I install it on my 360? Should I not install it? So yes, it's very nice."
For 360 versions, Willits said id recommends installing the game to the hard drive, or if you don't have the space for all 22GB, after installing and finishing the first half of the game from disc one, uninstall it, and then install disc two. There isn't a reason to disc-swap after completing the first half, and "you don't really need to install the multiplayer disc if you're really tight on hard disk space," Willits said."
ooooohkay, did some quick searching and now i'm totally confused on the time issue. some people are saying it's like 15-20hrs and some are like 50+.....wtf?

Bethesda and ID themselves said that it has a 15 hour campaign. However they have also mentioned it is open world. Fallout 3 only had a 20 hour main storyline, if not less than that, and look how huge it was. So there is still a chance that it is more like fallout 3 or borderlands.
The problem is I don't know if it is open world and there are many more hours of side quests or if the main storyline is all there is. They didn't really specify one or the other.
I really hope it is a big game.
I think a lot of the space it takes up is do to the graphics engine.

Happy to pay for bits of a game that coulda been included in the price...
Happy with developers trying to get 80+$ per sale. The work in making a game is in programming the engine, the fun part is designing the levels. It's a given that there will be lots of levels made after the engine's polished and the wheels are turning; the sad part is where console players made the idea that only developers can craft a quality map and the idea that maps are worth 10$ mainstream.

I like to pay for length and quality, if that extra $10-20 in dlc content adds another 10-20hrs then personally that's pretty good. Better than the games where you pay $60 and walk away beating it under 20hrs

Fair enough, it can always be that much worse. I just resent it. Hopefully they release modding tools for this one. That would create a community around it.

Do you mean like the editor that came with morrowind? That would probably make the pc users happier. I personally hate character and costume DLC, mortal kombat's the current example. That stuff should be included or given away after making too many sucky games.

I'll probably do a review on here of rage when I get it as I'm playing through. So anyone that's been iffy can get some insight into it, if it sucks, I will say it sucks. Unlike those fucking website "reviews". Prince of Persia and Enchanted Arms

My wife is bummed they didn't make Rage with a local co-op feature. We've played the fuck outta games like Borderlands. Good local co-op is awesome but hard to find, and I think we've played most of the good ones. She's totally stoked that Uncharted 3 is supposed to have co-op.

IGN gave it 8.5 but gave graphics 10 and gameplay 9. Said its a good game with a story and characters that fail to impact. I'm definitely getting it though, I'm a sucker for graphics and shooters.

Ehh, I don't trust those type of sites anymore. Unless there's a user/customer review I call BS after being burned too many times. I trust Yahtzee from Zero Punctuation more than those guys.
Buut, my body got his copy at midnight(lucky bastard) he's been playing the co-op missions and says "its fucking intense, anyone who was bitching about idTech5 can fuck off. Depending where you shoot someone determines how they fall. If you shoot em in the legs they fall straight down and they spin depending on what shoulder you shoot"

Sounds good. Now I just gotta decide if I'm getting it on xbox or ps. From what I've seen so far, the xbox one looks a bit sharper, but there's only screenshot comparisons so far. But I'm hoping the ps3 version is better overall because I have a heap of space on the hard drive and none on my xbox hard drive.

I bought it and regret it, it's fun but there are a ton of issues with the pc version of this game. They forgot about the people who made their company successful in the first place. This is a straight console port and that blows. Stay away if you are a pc gamer(at least untill the issues are resolved).

Ehhh, I may be a 360 person but ya might wanna get the ps3 version due to the fact that you only have the one disc and an 8gb install, plus if your 360's hard drive is full it makes more sense.

After two hours of fixes and downloads I finally got the game running as it should, the games a lot of fun I wish they incorporated more rpg elements though. It feels and plays like a mix between fallout, bulletstorm, and borderlands. An hour and a half in, I would give this a 7.5-8 out of ten, fun but there are a lot of issues.

Alright, so we have the class id style beginning where you kinda have to get your bearings (doom 3, quake 4), they don't really give you a long tutorial because everything is kinda right on the back of the booklet for basics. The save feature is pretty quick actually, the menu for swapping weapons/ammo is quick and efficient.
The handgun does not suck, you can buy a scope for it pretty much right away (boom headshot). The shotgun is still a go to weapon, assault rifle...not so much right now. The door grinder is a pretty nifty thing instead of a lockpick.
The ATV is sexy, controls are smooth and fun. Just got the buggy so that'll be next to check out.
Ok, as for combat. It's pretty smooth, reload times aren't a pain in the ass, your screen gets darker the closer you get to dying so that says "hey move your ass!" Headshots rock, sometimes ending in decapitation (bwahahah) and yea, depending how you shoot them depends how they fall which is fun.
Also, the defibrillator, a minigame that you do when your ass dies. Depending how well you do determines how much life you end up with, it also shocks any enemies that are around you, giving you the chance to bust out the shotgun and blow their brains out

How does it look on 360? The pc version looks nothing like the screens they showed before release. It get's so bad at times I feel I am back in 1998 playing half-life 1. At least wellsprings and the wasteland look good, get to the dead city and it's 1998 all over again.

Haven't made it to dead city yet. Personally, it is one of the best looking 360 games yet, they really put a lot of time into this and you can tell with the small details, like objects and the water effect when you stand under the leak in wellspring's alley. Also the easter eggs that pop up, there's a room after you have to use the defibrillator the first time that looks EXACTLY like castle wolfenstein.
I have been hearing that the ending kinda sucks, but in all honesty, whens the last time an ending really blew you away? After like an hour conversation my buddy and I had a hard time thinking up some. Oblivion, you didn't even fight the final boss the other guy did, fallout 3 was basically who dies, and crackdown was "oh were the bad guys lol".
The few gripes we've been having tho are, we wish it was more open worlded a bit and there was a map in game. Our other friends gripe is he wishes you could co-op in the single player, other than that we've been enjoying the game and yeah, its not a 5 out of 5 game but it does deserve the 4 out of 5's its gotten.
Personally I'd give it a 4.5

Glad you're having a good time and it is working for you. Agree on the campain coop thing. While the game is fun, I have asked for a refund. I spent about five hours tweaking things to get it to work properly and feel I have been scammed because of their marketing. Check this out: http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=m6i8iirjdrujatl Textures like that are all over the pc version. So frustrating, game looks so good at times and so poorly for the rest. At least the dev said he made a mistake focusing on consoles and will focus on pc in the future(as it has way more powerfull hardware).

It's not bad so far, I am not blown away by the graphics at all though, particularly after what everyone else has said. I think Resistance 3 shits all over it visually. It kind of feels outdated, the rpg parts aren't bad but I'd probably just rather be playing Deus Ex for that kind of thing. But the shooting is very fun. I'm playing on nightmare difficulty and haven't had any trouble yet.

Well it is a shooter first and foremost, comparing it to the other shooters out on the 360 right now, I still think it's more fun and the voice acting in this is much better. They'll probably fix most of the issues in the sequel.

The micro managing I had to do with the weapons and armor. The messed up menus. what really set me off is it didn't save acouple of times and I lost literally hours of game time.
mass effect 2 is the shit though! I always find my self coming back to it inbetween games.

I agree, the game companies are on some serious BS with their DLC. A week or two ago they released some "DLC" for Deus Ex. For $3 you get a silenced sniper rifle(why you couldn't silence the original sniper rifle I have no idea), a shotgun, and a level that should have been sold with the original game. No fucking way am I buying that. I hope they choke on their $3.

Same here, dlc has gotten out of hand. I like the concept, but it is being abused by companies to squeeze every last red cent out of a game. I could understand the current dlc model if games were 30-40 dollars, but not when most are sixty new. This issue also bothers me in the fact that they charge the same to pc gamers as to console gamers, when pc is cheaper to develop for.

So after a few hours playing Rage, I've decided its fairly average so I took it back and got Gears of War 3

Just got my refund from Steam, pretty awesome customer service on their end. I am going to preorder skyrim with the cash I got back.

I suspect my HDD had a role in it because I had a couple rockband saves just vanish. but yea after losing hours of progress I just rage quit, wasn't really engaged in the story ether. :shrugs: idk I just didn't like the game. Might give another chance some day but probly not.
I had the same happen to me with Rage, and I know it wasn't my HDD. I would get the little autosaving sign, and then shut my xbox off. Apparently autosave doesn't save shit at all.
The game is pretty good though, minus the driving (which feels like a chore). The shooting is nice because it is actually a challenge with how the enemies move and act.

It's the best troll by a dev ever. No matter what platform you play on, the game will make you rage.

Wheres the beef?
I got the PC version on Steam and had no bug or glitch issues. Was a little disappointed the story was so short, wasnt open-worlded, and there was very little RPG elements.
But I still loved every second of the 22 hours I have dumped into that game.
Visuals were absolutely stunning!

Nvidia users had way less problems than ati users. Most of the issues were with ati cards. My buddy has the same card, he had zero problems as well. I got the game to run great after about six hours of tinkering, at that point I was fed up(Even with the fix, textures looked like shit, nothing like the screens they showed to market the game). It was fun, but I felt like I was lied to.

I thought Rage was a fantastic shooter in terms of gameplay. It gave me a constant nostalgic warmth throughout. It's been a while since I've played a FPS as gloriously old school as Rage. I loved the weapons, and I loved most of the enemies.
It's not perfect though, and underwhelming for an id game. While the visuals are incredibly varied, and in that way, truly innovative with the megatextures and such, everything is disappointingly low res, and texture pop in is a constant issue. From a distance, Rage is fucking gorgeous, but nose to the wall, I was shocked. The textures look like PS2 quality up close. But who wants to spend their time closely inspecting the walls? The atmosphere of the game is superb, which is to be expected from the creators of Doom 3.
The story was meh, and I felt id had an identity crisis of sorts with this game. It felt overtly derivative. Of course, most people immediate notice the parallels with Borderlands, Bioshock, and Fallout 3, but upon closer inspection, this game also rips pretty hard off of F.E.A.R. and Half Life 2. They even make indirect references to both games. After you wipe out most of an Authority squad, the sole survivor will yell, "He wiped out the whole squad!". This is directly from F.E.A.R. 1, 2, and 3. In the second city hub, when the Authority occupies, you'll find that the guard standing near a trashcan will tell you to "Pick up the can" (theres a can near the trash). This is obviously a nod to the beginning of Half Life 2.
The ending was disappointing and felt very rushed.
The multiplayer is good fun, but lacking content. id had a chance to do something truly unique with the deathmatch mode by allowing the players to leave their vehicles and fight on foot, but they decided to limit it to vehicular combat only. It's disappointing, but what's there is casual fun.
So, excellent, oldschool gameplay, fantastic atmosphere, innovative yet unconventional graphics, fun but casual MP, and a derivative, poorly developed story. That's my opinion. A solid 8.5 game.

Gears 3 is fucking amazing! I honestly thought the graphics on Rage were quite shit. Gameplay was boring, characters were ridiculously shallow... The shooting was alright but overall I wasn't very interested. It's just that there are so many good games coming out at the moment I can afford to pass on one I find average.
Gears 3 is insanely brutal and fun, the graphics are the best I've seen yet, the story is actually pretty good for a 'tough guy space marine' type game.

Rage isn't shit, but it has become rather disappointing. The review in xbox magazine pretty much sums up my feelings except for one thing that's been pissing me the fuck off, there's doors you can't open up. It really did have a lot of potential and looked like it would be a fucking awesome game but then they dropped the ball. Me and my friends still like it, but it was a game built...pretty much on lies. If it had put all the good features into a fallout 3 type world it wouldve been better, cuz fallout 3 is an average shooter to be honest(still fun tho).
