New Thinkpad with Windows 7 Professional.....106 Processes running at startup?!?!?!

So I'm trying out Windows 7 finally. Visually at least, I can appreciate the OS. As far as navigating it and getting to the guts to change things I'm still unsure. I'll withhold judgement until I've used it for several weeks at least.
But it has seemed sluggish and I was shocked to open the Task Manager and find 106 processes running at start up. A lot of them comprise the bloat Lenovo puts on here, but still. My other laptop running XP was down to 23 or so processes after I disabled what was unneeded. But I think it started with 50 or 60 and I worked it down.
I'm sure I can do the same thing again, at least somewhat, but is Win 7 that much more bloated? What kind of target can I expect after cleaning up the unnecessary ones?

Laptop PC with win7, I had 78 on startup til I pruned it down, now I run around 40, but some of those are things I have chosen to run on startup.

if u reformat it with a bie release boot disk it will start up with 40-50 processes. sounds like u have a lot of crap ware. it would probably be easier to reformat then clean up, that is what i do w/ my new toys.

you should be able to cut the processes in half, maybe more. here is a link that helped me with my Windows 7, http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?63273-*-Windows-7-Ultimate-Tweaks-Utilities-*&p=442158&viewfull=1#post442158. Of course you can get rid of alot of lenovo software, too. Seems there is a program to do almost everything Windows already does, lol!

Others may comment since I haven't used these tweaks with Win 7.
However, BLACK VIPER'S WEBSITE gives a really in depth review of all the services and which are able to be disabled.
Give it a shot if you really want to run a "bare bones" system./

Check out Autoruns, its free and from Microsoft. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902
The Autoruns utility, which has the most comprehensive knowledge of auto-starting locations of any startup monitor, shows you what programs are configured to run during system bootup or login, and shows you the entries in the order Windows processes them.

Keep in mind as windog evolves it has been following the unix/linux mindset of stripping more services away from the kernel and making things stand-alone services (splitting them up) so to some degree each new version will have a higher number of processes.
That said 100+ is still BLOATWARE to the max!
You can also try running 'services.msc' from the run box as well, I noticed the service descriptions are a bit more meaningful in 7 so just turn things to disabled if you dont use.
Final note for services that are locked (greyed out) you can disable in the registry ie task scheduler, scm client etc.
Go into the regedit then follow:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> services
find the folder (in this case 'Schedule') and change the 'Start' key to what you want, 4=disabled
I kill off lot of those locked things as well
