got that fa shooooo.....two air stones ran under the hydroton and perlite. I still open the chamber about 3 times a day for misting and air exchange. I'm hoping this method is sufficient.

I guess I kinda lied...I had a shotgun set up and the first cake I dropped in got attacked by the green meanie within 24-48 hours and there was also an issue with moisture loss...this was a quick emergency cet up that I had immediate positive results so I will be doing a much larger scale set up soon to come.

all i know is that your casing is colonizing - not a great thing especially if all of your casing is colonized
purpose of casing is to provide moisture and provide a micro climate - if fully colonized then it cant serve it's purpose and then pinning becomes difficult
now,how to remedy it? i don't know...i can't find the answer and have done tons of search queries...my casing is colonizing as well and i don't know what to do

I waited for my jars to completely colonize I thought...then I dunked and rolled and placed them in the FC. I assumed they were already colonized once the myc had completely consumed all the brf and verm in the jar...help me out here, i'm all ears...

i just found this quote from RR
If you're casing, you WANT the mycelium to colonize up to 2/3 of the casing layer. The mycelium that colonizes the casing layer carries moisture from the casing down and into the substrate.

Gotta give 'em a week of consolidation after they are 100% colonized.

They should be fine.
EDIT: The one on the left is nearing 100% colonization. Try adding holes in your FC to allow more FAE. Your co2 levels could be to high causing the mycelium to colonize the casing layer *Dont take my word for this. Do a little research but I would recommend more FAE then just a pump.

i found this in the rr notes page
*Overlay is the condition that results when mycelium has been allowed to completely cover the casing surface. It is caused by prolonged vegetative growth temperatures, high CO2 levels, and excessive humidity. If overwatered, the overlay will become matted, or, will form a dense, dead layer of cells on the casing surface. OVERLAY CASING
so...dont let your myc to completely cover the casing ...mist less, fan more

What I usually do that has worked beautifully for me is waiting until I see the first pin before I birth my jars. Yesterday afternoon I saw two tiny pins after dunking, and today in the FC are about 10 fat healthy pins, two are already over an inch (they were barely visible last night) and the others are 1/4"-1/2".
Let us know how yours shape up after you get a couple of holes in your FC.

So I got two holes drilled in my lid now and as I was putting the lid back on the tub, guess what caught my eye!!! A little guy starting to sneak his way out of the right cake. I'll have some pics up tomorrow once it gets a little more length to it...the little guy is a few centimeters maybe but this is great news to me!!

yeah, you dont "have" to wait "exactly" a week after colonization. like the other guy said, alot of times small pins will start to form inside the jar. letting you know its time to birth... but birthing early will do no harm , the cakes will just take that time in the terrarium before they do their thing. i used to let my jars colonize on top of a dresser with indirect sunlight hitting them all day long...however on this current grow im gonna let them colonize in the dark. i think the light encourages pins to form early (while still inside the jar) and i dont really like that because then those pins grow into huge shrooms rather than me getting a good pinset. but hey, thats what ive learned from experience.

Would it be beneficial to lay another airstone above the perlite? I fan about 3-4 times a day but I could bump that up to 7-10 a day. Would drilling another hole or two in the lid be a good idea? The airstones that are submerged are 6" each individually running to a 40 gal. air pump.
You guys are awesome with this feedback!

Yes a layer of hydroton to cover the air stones, then another 2-3 inches of perlite. This set up is working well in my smaller version I am using.

My first cake I birthed, I had it in a sgfc and it quickly became contaminated so to save time I just built a pmp to get these two cakes up and running. The sgfc dried up way to quickly for my liking but I may give it another go one of these days...

40 gal fish pumps from walmart then I used two 12" air stones and two 14" air stones. Each pump has two nozzles to connect hoses to them so I can run 4 stones all together or even get a couple splitters and run up to 8 air stones. I was feeling a little creative on this one so I hope it all works out well. I still fan my fc throughout the day and have cut back to misting only once, maybe twice a day. Wish me luck!!

Casing? There is no casing, since this is a PF cake. Help me if I've misunderstood your comments, Jaf, but they seem to be irrelavent to this situation.

Well I'm a total noob, first grow, but I have cottony myc like that thin stuff you have on the bottom of my cakes and the blueish parts look like bruising to me. Which makes sense because those drops of water are big. I would not toss it just yet, wait for a Trusted Cultivator. You might be able to salvage it if you tossed it in the trash, if there's nothing funky growing in there...but wait til you get better advice.

Build a proper shotgun fruiting chamber. That means: 9mm holes every 2 inches on all 6 sides of the plastic tub. That covers your fresh air. Use 2 inches of wet perlite. That covers your humidity for the entire fruiting stage. If your holes are drilled correctly, you shouldn't have to mist or fan. Last, but maybe most importantly: be patient! I've had cakes that only started pinning after 10 to 14 days. This is nature, not a machine. You can't force it to fruit.
As for your conditions right now: your cakes look way to wet in my opinion. Never mist directly on your cakes. The excessive mycelium growth probably indicates that your CO2 levels inside the tank are too high. I found that fanning more often, or using a proper fruiting chamber, solved this problem.
I hope this information is of value to you.

Also, thanks for the high quality photo. That makes it easier to identify the problem. What I spotted as well is some primordia forming. I think you can expect some more pinheads in a couple of days.

Very much appreciated! I've got the shotgun fc set up and doing its thing. I have been fanning pretty regularly to try and help my cake out. I'm glad I did a small trial run first. I am soaking up all this info you all have been giving me! In a week or two I will have a larger scale grow ready to birth and fruit. Those guys are going to be pampered and well maintained thanks to these poor little guy suffering hahaha.
