    #1511845 - 05/01/03 03:48 PM (20 years, 10 months ago)

I placed the ten foirl over the top of the jar but I guess that wasnt enough a on of water is in the jars....What do I do to secure the ten foil? Can I use a rubberband? or is it to hot in the pc for it pls let me know thanks. Before I had placed the tenfoil under the cap and tightened it but the holes that I punched in it witht he screw dirver cut holes in the tenfoil and it leaked inside so I tried doing it outside this time ; \

I would think the heat inside the pc would bust the rubber band in a secound. You could prolly use a sturdy string like kite string or something to hold the tin foil in place. That would be my best suggestion.

When doing Quart jars I do this.
I use the regular metal lids or plastic lids with holes in them.
One large hole in the middle...a small hole off to one side.
Cover the holes in the lids with masking tape.
Put a tyvek filter over the jar without the lid on.
Then put the lid on...covering the tyvek filter.
Load jars into the pressure cooker.
Pressure cook.

After pressure cooking.
I wait an hour to let them cool down some.
Then I shake the jars...then cover them.
Wait til morning.
I shake them up again.
Take the tape off the smaller hole...inoculate with syringe.
Cover the smaller hole with a small round bandaid. (100 for $4.00)
Shake them up real good after inoculating.
Mark lid with name of strain and date to keep track of them.
Put them in the incubator.

Fuck using Alum foil with Quart Jars...unless you are just gonna cover the whole outside of the lid...if your extra paranoid.

Don't use too much water when pressure cooking.
Only use 1" to 2" of water...its all you need.

I had major problems with waterlogged jars while I had my pressure cooker... that's why I bought a AA25X electric steam sterilizer stereoclave!

Now I don't have anymore problems hehe.
