what happens if he goes to search, types in .bat, then uses the reset option? I'm sure what you explained works a lot better. but just curious, he goes to asus forums, and asks for a link to buy a cd online that will do this for him? he doesn't need to boot to the cd? just run the disk after everything starts up and it'll flash his bios ok?
but what about the driver? how can he be playing correctly if he doesn't have the updated nvidia driver? it sucks that he has to skip on that entirely, because it will work a lot better with the most recent driver.

I've not been following this thread closely, but if I am reading correctly, the advice given is to update the BIOS to the latest release, thus allowing the newest nVidia graphics drivers to function properly.

It's a bit confusing, but I believe the OP used drivers from nVidia's site instead of ASUS. He has the first version of the BIOS and the laptop isn't switching between the integrated and dedicated GPU when it's supposed to.
After a half-hour of reading up on his model it seemed like outdated BIOS versions were usually the culprit.
@imachavel: it's not necessary to keep your BIOS updated if it's functioning properly, and some driver releases don't work as well as others... the difference between releases can be huge. This is especially true for laptops since each OEM customizes them. If you look at the notebookreview forums you'll see mega-threads on driver feedback for Alienware, Dell, Clevo/Sager notebooks and which work the best. It's not uncommon for people to install a new driver and go back to a previous version.

indeed. how will windows update effect that? doesn't it usually update the driver automatically? if you roll it back will it allow that one to remain? what happened to the op anyway?

I don't know what Windows Update has to do with anything I posted.

Drivers are optional with MS updates.

Hardly. What happens when I have a product that Microsoft doesn't directly support? Beyond that, often the MS drivers are crippled compared to the OEM drivers.
