air pump
    #1511803 - 05/01/03 05:33 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

I know someone who is using a tetratec AP250 pump for gas exchange in his 10 gallon aquarium. It is a dual output pump but he switched one off and put one on full blast (the one that's pumping into the aquarium.) It is on almost continuously and there are some holes in the roof covered by a coffee filter. His cakes haven't yet begun fruiting after eight days and he's thinking that maybe there's not enough gas exchange. Could it be?

Try fanning it a couple times a day also.
CO2 is heavy so it stays at the bottom of your aquarium...uless you have a hole and filter in the lower portion.

Do you have the air hose hooked up to a air stone...is the air stone in a glass of water/H2O2 mix?
Or is your air hose just blowing into the aquarium?

I'd lower the temp a little...73 to 75 degrees F. is ideal for me.

Then have some patience...sometimes it takes longer to fruit.
Just wait it out.

good luck!

Roadkill, what exactly is an airstone? Why not just run air through a plain tube in a glass of h20/h202?

it has itty bitty little holes that allow for more air to be dispersed into the water than a 1/4" tube would, its made for fish, so i think a plain tube would work, but not by experience sorry.

In a fish tank the air stone is used to seperate what would be a large bubble into several smallers ones. Since the object is to get some oxygen into the water and will do so by contact, several small bubbles will have more surface area than one large one. Therefore by using this 'disperser' (airstone), there will be sufficient oxygen in the water.

Now in reverse, for our purposes we need higher water content in our air (humidity). So by using the same concept of 'mixing' air and water, you would want to use small bubbles for maximum contact. A plain tube would work (for humidification), but not nearly as well.
