When is the appropiate time to stir up the substrate in a mycobag to ensure that all of it is colonized. It seems everytime someone mentions the need to do this, they never seem to include when to do it.

Do it when the mycelia starts colonizing (probably around 15% or so). Just spread it evenly around the bag so that it will colonize faster.

My uncle's felching hampster did it at about 20%, and after a day or two, they just took off. A couple didn't get going too fast, so after a couple days of slow growth, he shook again. Presto!

hey guys, my friend has a mycobag that, after mixing around 30% colonization, has stalled all growth for 2 weeks. she doesnt have any sterile water or sterile needles - regardless, she doesn't think the substrate is too dry. anybody have an idea why her bag stalled? it is possible that it was due to temperature fluctuations. in that case, will the mycelium just give up, or will it eventually make an attempt to continue colonizing? thanks for the help - ill pass it on to her. peace

Bacteria is most likely the caus, my friend has encournterd this in the past. Most of the bacterial contamination created a nasty rust color fluid in the bottom of the bag. Hope this helps.

you can mix bags several times over the course of colonization. te only real problem is that if there is a small localized contamination that would otherwise be overcome, it can be spread throughout the uncolonized substrate more easily.

It is very likely that if mycelium doesn't recover after shaking it is from bacteria or another contaminant. Sometimes contamination goes un-noticed until the culture is shaken up. Many cultivators use this as a way to determine whether they have a clean culture or not before using it to inoculate larger amounts of materials.

well the mycelium has continued its growth. however, someone noticed that the bottom of the mycobag's substrate is a little dry perhaps due to the reptile heater. is the only way to remoisturize done by injecting sterile water? if so, how can you make sterile water? can one boil distilled water and h202 and then let the syringe suck it up? would that work? thanks

mycobag substrate is a combination of vermiculite and rye berries i *think*.
