my recipe for success has been
1/4" holes 2" apart on all six sides.
so thats a lot more holes than 5 a side

i agree with koolaid, think more holes will help you, you can always mist a little more to raise humidity?. I believe its good to allow the casing to "dry" off a little bit inbetween mistings to stimulate the pinning. and get a good bit of AE going on. might be worth trying on your next grow.
you mentioned that your friend told you c02 build up is good in early stages of fruiting. ?
again i am only relatively new to all of this but the way i understand it, the c02 build up might improve colonisation of the substrate or casing, but once in fruiting you want lots of fresh air exchange (this is a pinning trigger). also i noticed on 1 of your casings that your mushrooms are very fluffy on the lower half,,, again dont quote me but i believe this is a symptom of a lack of fae?
hope that helps you a bit. ps. nice pics.

thanks for the info. i've got one more tray that will be ready tomorrow hopefully, i don't think i'm going to case it. i think i'll put in some more holes tomorrow at some stage.
as for the side pinning tray. i didn't realize how many pins it had until i looked underneath it. think i'm going to leave it like this and hopefully i might get something out of it for its first flush.

The fruits look like they would really benefit greatly from increased FAE...

Nice pics always love seeing everyone's work. Those look like they could for sure use a bit more air (fae) with out it they tend to stretch and show weak stem support.

heres some pics of my Space Coast cake.

right now my B+ tray is harvested and now i want to dunk it for its second flush, only thing is that i think its going to crumble to pieces after the dunk as a think its quite weak. picking the mushrooms brought big chunks of myc and sub with them pretty easily. should i just go for the dunk and be gentle or is there something else i can do with it to recycle it? like crumble and mix with some more sub, would that be a possibility? also no pins on my GT cake or tray yet, its been nearly 2 weeks i think.

Damn man where are all the haters now? Probably choking with their foot in their mouth and all. Good job man.
Koolaid and the others are right though you need A LOT more holes in there man. Like literally every two inchs on all six sides. Don't worry about the humidity in your country, the perlite creates all the humidity you need. FAE you are lacking on. Here is my SGFC that I just birthed cakes into the other day. Humidity reads low but it's cause I just set my hydrometer in there. It's a constant 99% unless I fan then it drops for a couple minutes. And where I live it is cold and not humid.

thanks man. yeh im definitely putting more holes in it, as soon as i get my drill back! which will be soon hopefully. so if i have a good humid environment lacking in FAE, will the lack of FAE inhibit pinning? well, not much FAE gets down the sides of trays though, but it should help as a trigger right?

Im just learning more about FAE as I go along. But according to RR, FAE is the number one trigger for pinning. Mycelium is more like humans and differs from plants in that it use's oxygen and gives off co2. The build up of co2 will slow or inhibit pinning almost like choking it as co2 would asphyxiate a human. Mycelium colonizes better in the jars were there is a buildup of co2, but still needs some gas exhange. To much gas exhange in a jar is considered fae and will trigger pinning and is one of the causes of invitro pinning. I would just fan more vigourisouly to force fresh air into your chamber and co2 out, and do this more often than you have until you get more holes drilled. Still good job man

And lack of FAE will result in the not so healthy looking fruits above. I guarantee if you up the FAE you'll be one happy grower. But by all means gj mang!
