    #1511110 - 05/01/03 12:59 PM (13 years, 8 months ago)

Okay, here is the famous parker Ranch which surrounds the volcanoi Mauna Kea on the big island of hawaii.

This is major shroom country fromone end to the other and here you are nly seeing one side of the pasturelands at this Parker Ranch.

I changed the top of this post as I acciderntly wrote Muana Loa when it was Mauna Kea where I was at. Do not know how that happened.

have a shroomy day

Aww.. Brings back memories.

I used to go hiking through parker ranch. Are you on the North side (Somewhat near Waimea?) or south side near Kona? Im guessing up in the north.

I was on the Hilo side. Which is the Northeast-Northeast side of the Island.

I know where Hilo is!! hehe.

I love the road which drives right from Kona side through Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea, and brings you right into Hilo. Its like grassland then moonscape then rain forest in an hour.

Hey MJ,

I took a trip to Kauai last November. I didn't allow myself enough time to look for shrooms there so I never found any. I read on your site that you never personally hunted on that island but knew some people who did. I was wondering if you know any hot spots now? I did look around on the trails wherever I hiked and I went all around the island, but never saw anything. I never travelled too far off the beaten track, did a kayak excursion and hike to some "Secret falls" on the way to Opeakaa Falls, looked a little around some fields near Poipu, which is too populated, looked around trails to Wimea Canyon, looked up north near Hanalei Bay, searched around the campgrounds after the 30 min dirt road drive to Polihale Beach southwest of Napali Coast, and looked occassionally trying not to slip on red mud on my trecherous Na Pali Coast hike (good highlight to the whole trip), but ofcourse I never looked extensively away from most populated areas, I just spent a week enjoying all of the usual tourist activities available. I was mostly looking for Copes but was not sure what else there could be at that time of year. It rained most of the time; very warm. I'm not a seasoned hunter at all.

That is so funny because when i first went there to Hilo it was sunny for 8 days and then i caught the bus to Kona, meeting a women and her son I knew form maui years before and living with a man I knew from Settle and when i got halfway to Kona, trhe rain came down. OI stayed with a Doctor friend in Kona for 8 days and it rained the whole time. Only found a few shrooms near Kona. I think South would have been the eay to head.

I did find a beautiful patch north of Pahoa inthe Paradise Park subdivision off of Beach Drive Road from makua road.

mj
