Music for spirituality.

I never liked very much how most of my stoner friends were hopelessly dependant on artists like Hendrix and Pink Floyd and Bob Marley, (Repetitive typical stoner stuff thats 30 years old.)
So I started to get into weird experimental music; awesome psychedelia enhancing music like Psychick Warriors Ov Gaia and Thee Majesty and Allerseelen and Future Sound of London, etc. Does anyone here know of any other great psychedelia music that doesnt just "sound cool when you're fucked up"? Or has anyone had the similar experience of everyone you know ONLY listening to 10,000 covers of Hendrix when they're stoned?
(Just hoping i'm not alone here. 8-) )

You have stoner friends who listen to Hendrix, Floyd and Marley? Sir, you are a king among mere peasants, such as myself.
Pretty much anyone ive got stoned with has listened to nu-metal. About the best things ive heared are Cypress Hill and Incubus.
It's cool your trying to get into more obscure psychedelic stuff though. Ill have to check out some of them bands/artistd you mentioned.
Cheers,

radiohead is goon stoner music,
nu-metal is shit though. same with indie rock. and rap-rock. and stupid banal music labels.

Biosphere. breath-takingly natural, and introspective. find 'Substrata' the album. Sigur Ros is heavenly. I recommend more than anything. find Agaetis Birjun or ( ).

i'm sort of at that same point musically(i just tried to DL some ot the things you suggested but the queues were too long). i have the vast majority of my disc space(an anemic 6.2 gigs total) cluttered with stuff i used to listen to in the L8 60's/70's, i'm not putting it down cauz it was GR8 at the time but....some of the cooler new stuff(imo) that i listen to is Orbital, incubus, Tool, 3rd eye blind etc.... most of my friends from way back when just sort of give me a blank look when i tell them i don't care if i never hear another 7 minute guitar solo but that particular musical paradigm seems to have run it's course with me..... i guess the logical place to start freeing up space is to delete a lot of 20 minute long miles Davis songs.... Thanks for the suggestions though, i'll check some of that stuff out when it's a little less busy One really beautiful piece of music i HIGHLY recomend is "Zephyr sky song" by Luca Turilli

For Spiritual trip music, I'd suggest Shpongle, Juno Reactor, Led Zeppelin(their songs are full of mysticism), Ravi Shankar, Aphex Twin, Tool(tho it might be a bit heavier than what you're looking for), Radiohead, Pink Floyd, and most Folk, New Age, and Classical music.

Check out these:
Chicago Underground Quartet (avant garde jazz/electronica/rock fusion) Fennesz (computer generated noise vaguely resembling music) Tortoise (a little jazz fusion, but unique on its own) Godspeed You Black Emperor! (dramatic orchestral rock) Burnt Friedman & Jaki Liebezeit (xylophone + guitar + drums + computer)
Enjoy!

Check out the album "Passion" by Peter Gabriel. I can't get enough of it...
Also, John Frusciante's solo albums, Mogwai, Dead Can Dance, Boards of Canada, and my latest love, Godspeed You Black Emperor!

i think ultimately when you're already in a loving spiritual space that ALL music will bring you deeper into that....despite genres and choice of ways to communicate(acoustic instrumentation "vs" Hard trance etc) imo, all music comes from the same place, it may differ in content superficially but beneath the seeming incongruities there resides an underlying unity

Well put freakqlibrium...I would have to say that Tool is a great band in that the music evolves with you and Maynard knows what he is talking about. For me it has been just that a "tool".

Tool are are a very spiritual band.......especially Lateralus.. It will be VERY interesting to see/hear where Maynard's head is with the next one i think what a lot of people fail to recognize imo that musical lyricists at their best are today's philosphers giving us back a reflection of where we are as a macroism as well as individuals.....what else IS the macroism that is mankind if not a sum of it's components?

you gotta check out Dj Shadow's "Entroducing" flows so well
also check out 'Vida Blue' and 'King Crimson' for some trippy instrumentals
'Autechre' does some very trippy organic-sounding electronic music same with 'Single Cell Orchestra'

Well that would heve been/IS more recent stuff(which i haven't heard) but as long as originator/founder Robert Fripp is still involved i imagine it would still be pretty cool stuff

i think Beat was made in the early 80's
it has this pop sound to it, but its cool how they take it to their own level fearlessly. Makes me feel like I'm flying over this huge city at night, cuz it does have an urban feel to it.
