I find these badboys often......They can be very pretty, but I've never took the time to ID them, and now I've lost my field guide :frown:

Anyway.....I don't find mushrooms growing on wood very often where I live now (MD)....there is this one, and a similar-looking white mushroom that is very hard and lives thru the winter......they both can show brilliant beauty in their layers of gradient color.....

anyway....on with the ID :smile:
I was cleaning a flower bed this morning and found a stick of maple with a few of the tannish fungus growing. Very pretty to look at.....
I think they grow all year long.....
Can't think of much more to say about it......no spores to speak of.....
they are flexible, yet firm.....like rubber.....

anyone know?

Can you show us the underside? It would also be useful to see a cross section of one.

hmm...if it grows all year long its probably a huba in polish or a 'polypore' in english. once you get a pic or description of the underside etc. we can try an id for this.

oops....no pic now....
definatly no gills
same color on the underside, but not textured like the top
didn't look close enough for pores
seemed just smooth and flat, like no gills or pores
they are very thin, so I'm not sure if a cross section would do any good
reminds of a potato chip

The photos and your description sound like a Trametes or Stereum. To figure it out you'll need to get one (or a few) and bring them home so you can answer questions about them.
