1,359 Legal Wiretaps in 2002
    #1510623 - 05/01/03 09:45 AM (15 years, 1 month ago)

There was a nine percent increase in wiretaps from the previous (2001) 1491 aopplications logged the previous year.

Federal wiretaps rose 2 percent to 497.

Nearly all nonfedral wrietaps applications came from seven main states: New Yorkl with 404 applications; California, 143; New Jersey, 81; Pennsylvania, 79; Maryland, 54; Florida, 37; and Illinois, 25.

Main resons for these wiretaps in those seven states were: narcotics investigations, Gambling, Racketeering, and homicides where the other crimes cited most often in applications.

Now those were the legal wiretaps.

How many illegal wiretaps do you think were conducted.

Sorry but that was not int he article.

Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.

You would probably get a number that was pretty close to the amount of American homes with phones...
