missed timing
    #15099944 - 09/19/11 08:56 AM (12 years, 6 months ago)

my friend thought they were going to get a bit taller before the veils broke. oh well. started to harvest. won't be able to pick up a dehydrator until tonight, and oddly enough my friend doesn't own a fan. will they be ok just sitting out on a paper towel until he can get either of those things? Also, would you recommend buying a $30 dehydrator for a small time personal use grow? or just doing the fan thing? quick replies please guys!! thanks!

put them in a paper bag in your fridge until you are ready to eat or store them.

a week is almost too much.

i dont leave mine in fridge for more than 5 days

spend a few more bucks and get a dehydrator with temp controls

or look on craigslist for a used excalibur or a high end dehydrator

The Nesco (American Harvest) Snackmaster is a really popular choice on here..goes down to 90 degrees (with adjustable temp). Goes for around 40ish bucks shipped off big sites like Amazon, Walmart, eBay.

I've done some research around shroomery..and it seems like the best bang for the buck. A lot of people buy a dehydrator and end up with a clunker. They have trouble with their temps getting to hot, havinv to disconnect the coil, and they end up just using it as a fan. So I say either find one that is SUITABLE locally.. or order offline and get one that has proven results from other shroomery members.

There are a few different models of the Snackmaster.. the ones on eBay seem to be the popular ones people use on here. The newer snackmaster might be fine tooo.. I just have not seen the temp dial up close to know how low it goes. The snackmaster I know works for sure, will have the temp dial on bottom shoulder of it.

Remember... our purpose is not the same as the average food dehydrator consumer. We do not need a lot of heat.

Here is one on eBay with the proper dial. They are popular and available locally.. def check out walmart and kmart...bed bath and behond, kohls, all those shitty stores you never wanna set foot in

How would you compare the noise created by a snackmaster to a computer fan?

I love my snackmaster, it works great and keeps the temps low. The lowest setting on mine is 95 degrees F.

Its a great investment if you like to dry foods with it too, I regularly dry fresh homegrown chiles, basil, oregano and tomatoes to make various powders and "sun-dried" tomatoes. You can also make jerky in them

ok well wallyworld didn't have the nesco ones. all it had was the "Oster Food Dehydrator" which I found (after some frantic google action in the store) will work just fine. Apparently it'll have them dry in 4-5 hours. Just out of curiosity, the little guys will be fine just sitting out for a day at most before putting them in there right? It's really kind of loud and I'd rather run it when I'm not home so I don't have to listen to it run. however I may harvest the ones that are ready up to 12 hours prior to that. will they be ok?

If I can't get them into a food dehydrator I at least put a fan on them (or hang them in a painter strainer in front of a fan or a/c).

I personally wouldn't leave them sitting in the dehydrator wet with no moving air for a long time.
